Take-Two Confirms GTA Online Support Will Continue After GTA 6 Launches ‘And Beyond’

With GTA 6 now just weeks away from launch, Take-Two Interactive has moved to reassure the millions of players still active in Grand Theft Auto Online, confirming during a September 17 shareholder meeting that the existing online platform will not be phased out once the new single-player title arrives. “GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November,” the company stated. “We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA 6 release and beyond.”

The clarification comes as speculation has swirled for months about whether a new, GTA 6-branded online mode would launch alongside or shortly after the base game, similar to how GTA Online debuted following GTA 5’s release back in 2013. Take-Two’s statement suggests that timeline is unlikely to repeat itself this time around.

What This Means for Players for GTA 6

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Take-Two officials “have not talked at all, and they are not planning to talk anytime soon, about what the new GTA Online will look like” — deliberately vague language that suggests any successor online mode remains in early planning stages at best, if it exists in any concrete form at all right now.

That has left the community speculating about several possible directions: a standalone paid online experience priced anywhere from $30 to $70, a free-to-play model designed to maximise player numbers, or simply a major expansion added to the existing GTA Online down the line. Given the platform’s continued strength as a revenue generator years after its original launch, analysts see little incentive for Take-Two to rush a replacement and risk cannibalising an already lucrative live-service product.

For now, players invested in GTA Online’s economy, characters and progress can rest easy knowing their time won’t be rendered obsolete the moment GTA 6 arrives in November.

Take-Two also used the same shareholder meeting to emphasise the growing importance of PC gaming to its broader revenue outlook, projecting between $8 billion and $8.2 billion in revenue as GTA 6 approaches launch — figures that underline just how much is riding on both the base game’s success and the continued health of GTA Online’s live-service economy in the years ahead.
