Elon Musk has reportedly purchased thousands of GPU for its new AI project twitter

Despite advocating for an industry-wide moratorium on AI training, Elon Musk is said to have launched a major artificial intelligence project within Twitter. According to Business Insider, the company has already purchased approximately 10,000 GPUs and hired DeepMind AI talent for the project, which involves a large language model (LLM).

Elon Musk’s AI project is still in its early stages.

According to report, a significant amount of additional computational power indicates his dedication to advancing the project. Meanwhile, the generative AI’s exact purpose is unknown, but potential applications include improving search functionality and creating targeted advertising content.

At this time, it is unknown what specific hardware Twitter purchased. Despite Twitter’s ongoing financial problems, which Elon Musk describes as a ‘unstable financial situation,’ Twitter has reportedly spent tens of millions of dollars on these compute GPUs. These GPUs will most likely be used in one of Twitter’s two remaining data centres, with Atlanta being the most likely location. Interestingly, Elon Musk shut down Twitter’s primary datacenter in Sacramento in late December, reducing the company’s compute capabilities.

Twitter is hiring additional engineers in addition to purchasing GPU hardware for its generative AI project. Earlier this year, the company hired Igor Babuschkin and Manuel Kroiss from Alphabet’s AI research subsidiary DeepMind. Since at least February, Elon Musk has been actively seeking AI talent to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

OpenAI trained its ChatGPT bot on Nvidia’s A100 GPUs and continues to run it on these machines. Nvidia has now released the A100’s successor, the H100 compute GPUs, which are several times faster at roughly the same power. Twitter’s AI project will most likely use Nvidia’s Hopper H100 or similar hardware, though this is just speculation. Given that the company has yet to decide what its AI project will be used for, estimating how many Hopper GPUs it will require is difficult.

Elon Musk has fired more than 80% of Twitter employees

It has been revealed by Elon Musk that he has terminated the employment of more than eighty percent of Twitter’s total workers so far. After the billionaire’s takeover of Twitter in October of the previous year, there have been repeated rounds of layoffs as a result of the $44 billion acquisition.

Musk revealed this information during an interview with the BBC on Twitter Spaces. He stated that out of the approximately 8000 people who had previously worked at Twitter, there are now only 1,500 people in active employment there.

Musk asserts that there were somewhat fewer than 8,000 staff employees working for the company when he purchased it. Around 1,500 people are still employed at Twitter at this time. Elon Musk was also questioned if it was difficult to fire that many people, to which he said, “not enjoyable at all” and that it may be “painful”. Musk also asserted that he does not personally dismiss everyone. It’s impossible to speak with that many individuals in person, he remarked.

Elon Musk claims that his time spent working at Twitter has been “such a rollercoaster,” but that things are currently “pretty well.” Yet, Musk claims that the only reason he purchased Twitter was due to the necessity of doing so. However, he indicated not too long ago that Twitter is not even worth half of what he paid for it, which comes to a price of around $20 billion for the company as a whole.

In spite of this, Elon Musk has made it clear that he has no intention of selling Twitter, even if another party were to give him $44 billion for it. In a further explanation, he stressed that he would only sell it under the condition that the buyer would agree to expose the “truth” in the same manner as Musk. This was the only way that he would consider selling it.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has returned with further modifications for the microblogging platform. This time, he has replaced the recognizable bluebird emblem, which served as the web version’s home button, with the “doge” meme of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. On April 4, Twitter users noticed the “doge” meme, which is a component of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency and blockchain logo and was made as a joke in 2013.

Elon Musk also published a funny image of the “doge” meme on his account, which depicts Shiba Inu’s face, in the automobile, notifying the policeman who appears to be looking at his driver’s license, showing that his image has been updated. It’s noteworthy that the Twitter mobile application remained unchanged.

It is crucial to remember that the Shiba Inu doge is widely recognized as the logo of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency and blockchain, which was created as a joke in 2013 to ridicule Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, according to Variety.

The screenshot of the March 26, 2022, chat between the anonymous account and Twitter’s CEO shows the latter seeking to replace the bird logo with “doge.” Musk shared this article on Twitter and added, “As promised.”

The publication Variety claims that Musk, who spent USD 44 billion to purchase Twitter last year, is a well-known superfan of Doge and has promoted Dogecoin on both Twitter and while presenting “Saturday Night Live” last year. Dogecoin’s value increased by more than 20% following Monday’s update to Twitter’s online logo.

Before launching his ultimately successful attempt to acquire Twitter, Elon Musk wrote in March 2022 “Given that Twitter has become the de facto public town square, failure to uphold free speech norms gravely threatens democracy. What should be done?” Musk posted a tweet. Earlier, on February 15, Musk uploaded a picture of the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency emblem on his account while assuming the role of the CEO and writing, “The new CEO of Twitter is great,” demonstrating his passion for the “Doge” cryptocurrency.

Twitter will no longer allow unverified accounts to appear in suggested tweets

Musk described the move to stop recommending tweets from accounts without a blue verified badge as “the only feasible solution to address advanced AI bot swarms taking control” in a post announcing the upcoming change. Musk disclosed in the same tweet that users’ ability to cast votes in polls on the social media site would also need to be verified for the same reason. The Twitter CEO argued that the situation would otherwise be hopeless and futile.

All you need to know about Twitter’s Blue Tick!

Musk claimed in a previous post that paid verification makes it simpler to spot bots and dramatically raises the cost of utilizing them. After the initial rollout of Twitter Blue, accounts with blue checkmarks were being used to impersonate companies, celebrities, and other high-profile people. As a result, the company relaunched Twitter Blue in December. Spending $8 or $11 if using the iOS app to subscribe was the only prerequisite for receiving a blue checkmark.

Twitter Blue users are no longer marked with a blue checkmark beside their names until they have verified their phone numbers and had their accounts looked through, in order to prevent impersonations. The blue checkmark is momentarily lost by subscribers who modify their username, display name, or profile picture until their account is once again approved. Nonetheless, Twitter does not request any type of formal documentation to confirm ownership at any stage during the sign-up process, leading some users to question Musk’s reasoning for preventing unverified accounts from appearing under the “For You” tab.

Additionally, Twitter said last week that the “legacy” verified program would start to wind down on April 1 and that “legacy verified” blue badges would be removed. In an effort to find new sources of income, Musk has made Twitter Blue a cornerstone policy of the website. The market value of Tesla is alleged to have plummeted ever since the new CEO took office. In an email note sent to staff members last week, Musk reportedly informed them that Twitter’s current valuation is only $20 billion, or less than half of the $44 billion he spent for the firm last year. This information was obtained by the New York Times.

  • Elon Musk states that the total value of Twitter is $20 billion

Elon Musk states that the total value of Twitter is $20 billion

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has reportedly offered stock grants to the company’s staff at a valuation of close to $20 billion, The Information reported on Saturday. The valuation is only half of what he spent to acquire Twitter. Musk spent $44 billion to purchase the microblogging platform in October of last year.

The value of Twitter has decreased significantly since the acquisition, according to the report, but it is still significantly higher than Twitter’s competitors’ public market valuation levels. Due to major advertisers cutting back on their spending on the social media platform following his takeover, Elon Musk claimed in December of last year that Twitter was on track to be “roughly cash flow break-even” in 2023.

The $20 billion valuation implies a multiple of 11 times this year’s revenue, translating to an implied enterprise value of $33 billion, according to the report.

Elon Musk has predicted that Twitter will earn less than $3 billion in revenue this year.

Following his takeover of Twitter, Elon Musk claimed his business was losing $4 million every day. The billionaire took action to reduce staff size and fired nearly 70% of employees in order to reduce costs. “Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately, there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day,” he wrote then.

A research company stated in January of this year that Twitter advertising spending had decreased by 71% from the month before, December. Top advertisers cut back on their spending on the social media platform after Musk took control. The amount spent on Twitter advertisements fell by 55% in November compared to the same month the year before. According to another report, Twitter’s revenue was down 40% from the previous year.

Advertising continues to be Twitter’s main source of income, and following Musk’s takeover, the social media company saw a mass exodus of the top brands. Elon Musk was able to entice some advertisers back, though, by providing steep discounts. To support the revenue, he has also implemented subscription-based verification.

  • France bans TikTok, Twitter and Instagram from the phones of its Government Employees

France bans TikTok, Twitter and Instagram from the phones of its Government Employees

Because of worries about inadequate data security measures, France has banned the “recreational” use of TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, and other apps on the phones of government employees. According to a Friday tweet from the Ministry of Public Sector Transformation and the Civil Service, the ban will take effect right away.

“In order to guarantee the cybersecurity of our administrations and civil servants, the government has decided to ban recreational applications such as TikTok on the professional phones of civil servants,” Stanislas Guerini said on Friday.

He went on to say that for several weeks, several of France’s European and international partners have taken steps to restrict or prohibit their administrations from downloading, installing, or using the Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok.

Guerini stated that recreational applications lack adequate levels of cybersecurity and data protection to be deployed on administrations’ equipment, but that exceptions can be granted for professional reasons, such as institutional communication of an administration.

In recent weeks, the White House, the UK parliament, the Dutch and Belgian administrations, the New Zealand parliament, and the governments of Canada, India, Pakistan, Taiwan, and Jordan have all banned TikTok.

Concerns about the alleged security risks posed by TikTok have been raised most prominently by US lawmakers and national security officials, who claim that the app’s user data could be accessed by the Chinese government.

After FBI Director Christopher Wray stated in November that TikTok poses risks to national security, calls to ban it from government devices gained momentum.

The Commission and the Council, the two largest policy-making bodies in the European Union, banned TikTok from staff phones late last month due to security concerns. Global worries have grown over the possibility that ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, could give the Chinese government access to users’ contact information and location information.

During questioning by US lawmakers on Thursday, the company’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, pushed back on claims that TikTok or ByteDance are tools of the Chinese government. The company has repeatedly stated that global institutional investors own 60% of ByteDance.

A 2017 law in China requires companies to provide the government with any personal data relevant to the country’s national security. There is no evidence that TikTok has turned over such data, but due to the vast amount of user data it collects, fears abound.

Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, claimed earlier this month that the US had not yet provided proof that TikTok posed a threat to its national security and was abusing its authority to repress foreign businesses by using the pretext of data security.

  • Elon Musk: Twitter is rapidly expanding and making progress every day

Elon Musk: Twitter is rapidly expanding and making progress every day

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced a slew of enhancements to the microblogging platform. He stated that Twitter is rapidly expanding and has reached 8 billion user minutes per day. Elon Musk announced that, on March 31, 2023, Twitter will open source all code used to recommend tweets. Furthermore, beginning March 20, 2023, the platform will restrict SMS two-factor authentication (2FA) to Twitter Blue subscribers.

Elon Musk believes that exposing the code will result in a rapid improvement in recommendation quality.

In another tweet, he stated that the microblogging platform would use artificial intelligence (AI) in the coming months to detect and highlight public opinion manipulation.

“Our algorithm is overly complex & not fully understood internally. We’re developing a simplified approach to serve more compelling tweets, but it’s still a work in progress. That’ll also be open source,” he said in a tweet thread.

Elon Musk, riding the artificial intelligence wave, announced on Saturday that Twitter will use AI to detect and highlight public opinion manipulation on Twitter.

This move is intended to address criticism that the microblogging platform lacks content moderation since Elon Musk’s takeover in October of last year. Since the takeover, the social media platform has laid off thousands of workers and is now operating on a shoestring budget. As a result, the platform is vulnerable to outages, malicious content, and misinformation.

Even advertisers have abandoned Twitter since Elon Musk’s takeover, which is why the Twitter CEO is looking into options such as subscription-based services.

In the coming weeks, Musk said, the microblogging platform will prioritize responses from followers, verified accounts, and unverified accounts. The platform recently added bookmark counts to tweets for iOS users.

Twitter will now charge you for SMS 2FA service for your account

Twitter announced on Friday that only paid subscribers will be able to use text messages as a two-factor authentication (2FA) method to secure their accounts. Two-factor authentication, which is intended to increase account security, necessitates the use of a second authentication method in addition to a password.

The Social Media supports two-factor authentication via text message, authentication app, and security key. However, as a desperate move to generate funds, the social media giant is looking for new ways to generate revenue after Elon Musk bought the company.

If you don’t start paying for a Blue subscription ($8 per month on Android; $11 per month on iOS) or switch your account to use a far more reliable authenticator app or physical security key by March 20th, the service will simply disable your 2FA.

The company believes phone-number-based 2FA is being abused by “bad actors,” according to a blog post published on Wednesday and linked to in the company’s tweet. The blue check mark, which was previously reserved for verified accounts of politicians, celebrities, journalists, and other public figures, is now available to anyone willing to pay.
