Five years can change everything — even in Khazad-dûm. A new exclusive image has revealed that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will introduce Gimli’s ancestors as fully grown teenagers for the first time on screen, and fans are already buzzing.

Who Are Gerda and Gamli?

The image features returning stars Owain Arthur and Sophia Nomvete as Durin IV and Disa, now rulers of Khazad-dûm, standing beside their once-hidden children. Season 3 picks up after a five-year time jump, and the kids — daughter Gerda (Amber Mendez-Martin) and son Gamli (Lee Braithwaite) — are now teenagers who’ve grown up watching their parents lead the dwarves against Sauron’s rising threat. Despite their age, the siblings are set to play a real role in the unrest brewing within the mountain kingdom.

This marks a first for the franchise: teenage dwarves have never appeared on screen before, and they aren’t something J.R.R. Tolkien wrote about either. Interestingly, Gamli isn’t named after his father or grandfather, breaking dwarven naming tradition — and since Gimli descends from Durin’s line, either sibling could be a direct ancestor of the beloved LOTR character.
