Mauricio Pochettino came in for Lionel Messi at halftime in PSG’s Ligue 1 match against Lille, as the superstar forward’s goal drought continued. It was all the more surprising given that Jonathan David had given the visitors the lead in the first half.

After missing training on Thursday due to a muscular issue, the Argentina international was a major doubt for the match at Parc des Princes. He was considered fit enough to play, but he was a non-factor in the first half, with both of his shots missing the target.
Messi began forward alongside Angel Di Maria and Neymar after KylianMbappe was out due to an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) infection, but PSG looked lifeless in attack before the interval.
Pochettino replaced his compatriot with Mauro Icardi as a precaution, according to L’Equipe, because the Argentina captain has been suffering from a muscle ailment in recent days. Messi attempted to link up with his teammates in the final third, and he had a chance to score with a freekick right outside Lille’s box shortly before halftime, but he pushed the ball wide.
PSG scored 2-1 at the Parc des Princes courtesy to goals from Marquinhos and Di Maria in the second half, but Messi appeared impotent in the first 45 minutes, sending a freekick high and wide before being replaced by Mauro Icardi at halftime.
In the first half, the hosts battled against a superior Lille and lacked enthusiasm, committing no fouls before the break. PSG now has eight points after goals scored after the 85th minute, due to Di Maria’s late goal.
The Argentine is yet to score in Ligue 1, having failed to score in each of his five league appearances this season. Messi, on the other hand, has been on fire in the Champions League, scoring three goals in three games.
Following a goalless draw at Le Classique, PSG now look to return back to winning ways at Le Parc des Princes however they face a tough challenge from the current Ligue 1 champions, Lille. PSG and Marseille finished 0-0 despite the Parisians being a man down in the second half. The game was utter chaos and the fans were unruly in their behaviour, hurling trash at PSG players despite pleas from Dimitri Payet and president Jacques-Henri-Eyraud.
Marseille fans have a history of being violent towards PSG, and it got so bad that the police had to put up shields whenever Neymar went to take a corner. PSG fans were not allowed in the stadium due to prior incidents and the home fans took full advantage of the situation to heckle the visitors.
Achraf Hakimi was the man sent off for PSG, since he had to tackle Cengiz Under as the last man protecting the break. The Moroccan was sent off following his tackle, and he will miss the next Ligue 1 game.
🇫🇷 William Saliba vs. PSG:
90 minutes played 1 clearance 1 interception 3 tackles 1 last man tackle 5 ground duels (80% success) 1 aerial duel (100% success) 54 passes (96.4% accuracy) 1 clean sheet
Both sides had early goals disallowed by VAR, and neither team was able to find a breakthrough in the game. PSG will be happy to keep a clean sheet despite having a key defender sent off and playing almost the entirety of the second half with a man light.
“I think we played very well, but we just couldn’t get the goal,” Pochettino told broadcaster Amazon Prime.
“The team showed great character, and of course identity and style.”
PSG remain at the top of the table with 28 points from eleven games, and are seven points clear of Lens, in second place. Marseille, on the other hand, are fourth with 18 points from 10 games.
PSG returned to winning ways at the Le Parc des Princes with Kylian Mbappé’s goal in the last minutes of the game, They now visit Orange Vélodrome for the first Le Classique of the season against Olympique de Marseille. Now that Eduardo Camavinga has joined Real Madrid, the cycle looks set to start again. You can hardly write transfer rumors about a player who has just – at long last – made the switch to the Bernabeu. So what’s next? How about another Ligue 1 midfielder with long limbs, young and talented?

Marca is already engrossed in the Aurelien Tchouameni narrative, and they’re kicking about some numbers. Monaco is expected to demand at least €60 million for their midfielder, according to their report today.
That appears to be reasonable. He’s gained a lot of first-team experience and is quickly accruing France caps now that he’s earned Didier Deschamps’ trust.
That’s not an easy thing to do, and it’s a testament to his abilities. Despite their recent activities, it should come as no surprise that Madrid is keeping a careful eye on them. Camavinga and Tchouameni might play together for Les Bleus and Los Blancos if everything goes according to plan.
We are now a few matchdays into the new season, and the most expensive lineups in each league can now be determined. The market value of each player is determined by their desirability and is the amount of money that clubs would pay for the footballer. Here is the most expensive lineup in Ligue 1:
GK: Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) €65 million
RB: Achraf Hakimi (PSG) €70 million
CB: Marquinhos (PSG) €75 million
CB: Presnel Kimpembe (PSG) €40 million
LB: Nuno Mendes (PSG) €40 million
CM: Marco Verratti (PSG) €55 million
CM: Houssem Aouar (Lyon) €35 million
CAM: Lucas Paqueta (Lyon) €35 million
RW: Lionel Messi (PSG) €80 million
LW: Neymar (PSG) €100 million
ST: Kylian Mbappe (PSG) €160 million
As you can see, the lineup in the French league consists almost entirely of PSG players with the exception of Lyon midfielders Houssem Aouar and Lucas Paqueta.
Messi, Donnarumma, Hakimi and Nuno Mendes are all new acquisitions for PSG. They signed Messi and Donnarumma on a free transfer, which amounts for about €150 million without the payment of a transfer fee.

Kylian Mbappe remains the most expensive player in France, with his value now at €160 million. He stars alongside his strike partners Messi and Neymar as part of the most expensive front three.
Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe are two of the centre-backs featured in the lineup, while Sergio Ramos missed out on a big margin, given his value is now at €10 million. The PSG captain is among the most expensive centre-backs in the world, and certainly is the best in Ligue 1 by a long shot.
After a shocking defeat to Rennes, PSG will be looking to return to winning ways as they face Angers in an exciting fixture at Le Parc des Princes.
