Creative Team Behind the Sequel
Hugo Award-winning writer Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer, and producer, joined by acclaimed talent including lead character designer Kanno Ichigo (Promare) and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann) handling screenplay adaptation.
Why This Announcement Matters
The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners launched in September 2022 to critical acclaim, earning a rare 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. More importantly, it was the first real spark to reignite interest in CD PROJEKT RED’s Cyberpunk 2077, proving anime adaptations can revitalize gaming franchises.
The timing couldn’t be better for fans craving more cyberpunk content. With gaming industry trends showing increased crossover between anime and video games, this sequel represents a strategic move to maintain momentum in the Cyberpunk universe.
What’s Next for Night City?
While CD PROJEKT RED is now deep into production of The Witcher 4, the anime series ensures the Cyberpunk brand remains active. Netflix’s global reach positions Edgerunners 2 to capture both existing fans and newcomers to the franchise.
The series will stream exclusively on Netflix, though no release date has been announced yet. Given TRIGGER’s track record and the creative team’s pedigree, expectations are sky-high for this return to Night City.
