  • Apple to announce new iPads soon as Work-From-Home boosts Sales

Apple to announce new iPads soon as Work-From-Home boosts Sales

According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple Inc. plans to announce new iPads as early as April, adding to a product line that has performed particularly well during the restrictions imposed due to the lockdown where people work and study from home.

The Cupertino-based company plans to include the new devices in its iPad Pro line, adding a better processor and improved cameras. However, its looks and screen size, 1-inch and 12.9-inch, will be similar to the current iPad Pros.

The devices will have an updated processor, which will be on par with the faster M1 chip present in the latest MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Apple designs these processors, and typically manufacturing is outsourced to TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.). With at least the larger model, Apple is looking to include a Mini-LED screen, which would be brighter and have improved contrast ratios.

According to Bloomberg, “in testing, the new iPad Pros have used a Thunderbolt connector, the same port on the latest Macs with custom Apple processors. The port doesn’t require new chargers, but it would enable connectivity with additional external monitors, hard drives and other peripherals. It’s also faster at syncing data than the USB-C technology used in the current models.”

An Apple spokeswoman refused to comment on the matter. However, the company’s plans could change as it announced its first product launch event of the year.

During the key holiday quarter of 2020, the iPad generated $8.4 billion in revenue for Apple, the most since 2014. Sales surged due to the increase in demand from people working and studying from home during the pandemic. As working and studying begin returning to offices and schools in the coming months, Apple will be betting on the new iPad models to maintain interest in the tablet line.

In March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, the iPad Pro was last updated, adding a tweaked processor, a lidar scanner alongside the camera, and support for the Magic Keyboard with a Trackpad case.

Bloomberg News has reported earlier that Apple plans to refresh its cheapest iPad aimed at students with a thinner and lighter design later this year. This year, it’s also preparing to launch a new iPad mini with a larger screen.

Apple has several other product updates planned for this year, including the new iPhones and Apple Watches, major updates to the MacBook Pro laptop and iMac desktop, and an accessory for tracking physical objects’ location.

  • Apple files for a patent that will detect battery swell issues

Apple files for a patent that will detect battery swell issues

One common complaint of smartphone users is that the more they use their device, the faster the battery discharges. It is a general problem that the battery of smartphones swells up and it loses the robustness and longevity because of which it was purchased. The US tech giant, Apple, is moving towards solving this issue of customers.

The company aims to prevent user device’s batteries from swelling and eventual wear and tear. Now, Apple has reportedly filed a patent for a technology that will allow a device to ‘detect’ a swelling battery. They have filed for another patent for making smaller devices thanks to improved batteries. This will eventually help Apple to create smaller devices that can be carried easily.

Both of these technologies will go together to make the battery better so that they don’t get swelled up. The Cupertino-based giant is aware that every battery which is backed with the lithium-ion design suffers from this wear and tear. Thus, making something new to counter this will be a huge step-long usage of smartphones. According to reports, a metal shell will be placed around the battery housing to counter any swelling up of the battery.

This metal shell will make components be packed closely to the battery. Thus, limiting the damages caused to other parts due to the expansion of the battery case. Apple aims not only the early detection of battery swelling up but also is trying to build a processor which will slow any such expansion. As this is just a patent, we have to wait for sometime before Apple is able to make such a product. But seeing their willingness towards solving issues of customers has to be applauded.

  • Apple has the Potential to reach a $3 Trillion Market Cap, analysts suggest

Apple has the Potential to reach a $3 Trillion Market Cap, analysts suggest

Apple Inc.’s stock could reach a market capitalization of $3 trillion, analysts have predicted, drawing attention to the development of the Electric Vehicle (EV), Apple Car, as well as high expectations for the next iPhone.

In 2018, the tech giant became the world’s first publicly-traded company to be worth $1 trillion and last year, it became the U.S’s first publicly-traded company to be valued at $2 trillion. Now, analysts at Citigroup Inc. and Wedbush see the potential for Apple to hit the $3 trillion milestones, an increase that implies an almost 50% surge from Thursday’s close. Currently, Apple is already the most valuable stock in the world with a market cap of about $2 trillion.

According to a note written by Citigroup Inc. analyst Jim Suva, on Friday, developing the Apple Car could boost the company’s sales by 10% to 15% after 2024 and by the year 2025, he expects the worldwide EV market to outgrow the combined market for PCs, smartphones, tablets, and wearables.

Apple’s EV endeavor, according to Wedbush, is the right strategic move at the right time.

“If Apple gets just 5%-10% of share this could represent another major growth pillar within Cupertino and add $30+ per share to Apple’s SOTP valuation,” the firm said, according to Yahoo Finance.

Daniel Ives, Wedbush analyst, whose price target for Apple is a Street-high $175, also sees a $3 trillion valuation by the year-end on the horizon. In a note on Wednesday, he called recent declines in the stock a “golden buying opportunity,” expecting the upcoming iPhone 13 to be a “game-changer,” with greater output rates than the previous generation being pointed out by supply chain data.

Since reaching a record high at the end of January, Apple’s shares have slid around 17%, amid a rotation out of high-flying tech stocks. In early trading on Friday, they declined 1.8% as worries over rising bond yields hit the tech sector more broadly.

  • Apple’s privacy labels are discriminatory, believes WhatsApp Head will Cathcart

Apple’s privacy labels are discriminatory, believes WhatsApp Head will Cathcart

Facebook and Apple have been in a war of words for quite some time now with Apple CEO Tim Cook, as well as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg openly criticizing each others’ companies, no holds barred. Head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart, is the latest from the Facebook camp to slam Apple as he didn’t have good words for the iPhone maker while speaking on the ‘Big Technology Podcast’.

Cathcart criticized Apple by saying that their private labels are discriminatory. “I assume it’s in Apple’s interest to have everyone using an iPhone; I mean, obviously, it is. And you look at a place like the U.S., most people have an iPhone, and the messaging experience works better on iMessage if everyone else has an iPhone,” said Cathcart, according to Gadgets Now. “It’s certainly in their strategic interest that people not use something like WhatsApp because they want people not to use an Android phone,” he added.

Apple's privacy labels are discriminatory, believes WhatsApp Head will Cathcart

Earlier this year, Apple rolled out its new privacy labels which claimed WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger collect a lot more data compared to other top messaging apps. Reportedly, the Facebook Messenger app has 65 different privacy labels which include product personalization, third-party advertising, app functionality, and “other purposes,” while WhatsApp has 16 labels.

When asked about these privacy labels, Cathcart said, “Regardless of whatever the purpose of the labels was, we compete with iMessage from Apple, we compete in the U.S. — where way more people use iMessage than use WhatsApp — we compete in a bunch of places around the world. You don’t see a label for iMessage when you download it because you don’t download it; it’s on your phone, to begin with. And so, we were critical of that.”

As for what phone he prefers and uses himself, Cathcart said that it is Android because of Whatsapp’s “android heavy” user base. ” I also use an iPad, I’ve used iPhones for many years, but I really want to actually use the product in the way most people are using it, so I use an Android. A lot of people use both or go back and forth because we’re building our products for both and you got to understand them all.”

  • Next iPhone SE will have a 5G upgrade but not before 2022

Next iPhone SE will have a 5G upgrade but not before 2022

The very-first iPhone SE was launched in 2020, named iPhone SE 2020 and it climbed a big success in terms of sales all over the world. iPhone SE is basically a toned-down version of the recent iPhone, like its small size, and so on. When Apple launched its iPhone 12 series at the end of 2020 and introduced a new model named iPhone 12 mini. But unfortunately, iPhone 12 mini has not received much success from the market.

Now, a report has come out saying that it is going to be a momentum break from Apple as there will not be any SE iPhone in 2021. But as per rumors and reports, we can expect Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE in 2022 with a couple of notable upgrades, and most probably, iPhone SE 2022 will be a 5G enabled iPhone.

Coming to its design and specifications, we’re getting some mixed comments, saying that the design and display will be similar to its predecessor whereas the internal section is going to be upgraded. We can expect a punch-hole display in iPhone SE 2022. There could be the same 4.7-inch IPS LCD display along with the home button in iPhone SE 2022.

As previously mentioned, the 2022 iPhone SE is likely to be a 5G enabled iPhone, it could possibly use the Snapdragon X55 5G modem along with the A14 Bionic chip. Both the chips are very powerful but they will be one-generation old. So, for Apple, it will be much cheaper to manufacture the iPhone SE 2022 and we, the consumers can grab the deal at an affordable price range.

Now, if we check the current price of the iPhone SE 2020, it is something around $399. In 2022, if Apple will sell iPhone SE 2022 at a similar price tag as the current one, then we might get to see a huge price-drop in terms of SE 2020. There is nothing much information we’ve known yet regarding it. Probably, in mid-2022, Apple will launch the 2022 version of its iPhone SE.

  • Google is exploring an Anti-Tracking feature for Android, after Apple’s revelation

Google is exploring an Anti-Tracking feature for Android, after Apple’s revelation

According to a report first released by Bloomberg, Google is considering developing an Android alternative to Apple Inc.’s new anti-tracking feature, signalling towards an acceptance of user privacy by the internet industry.

The increasing pressure on large tech companies to favour user privacy is showing as the search giant is discussing how it can limit data collection and cross-app tracking on the Android OS. However, Google is planning to do it in a less stringent way than Apple’s solution.

Google is trying to find the right balance between the rising demands of privacy-conscious consumers with advertisers and developers’ financial needs. Similar to how the Alphabet Inc. unit is slowly developing a new privacy standard for web browsing called the Privacy Sandbox, it seeks input from its stakeholders.

Google has a vested interest in helping partners to continue generating revenue by targeting ads to Android device users as there have been investments of more than $100 billion in annual digital ad sales.

“We’re always looking for ways to work with developers to raise the bar on privacy while enabling a healthy, ad-supported app ecosystem,” a Google spokesman said in a statement.

In a forthcoming software update, iOS 14.5, Apple has added quite a lot of new features, one of them being App Tracking Transparency. The tool asks the consumer for their permission to let apps collect data about them across other apps and websites. The digital advertising industry has been shaken by this move. Facebook and other companies have complained the feature will create a loss of revenue as it will limit their ability to effectively serve personalized ads.

According to Bloomberg, a Google solution is likely to be less strict, and the exploration into an Android alternative to Apple’s feature is still in the early stages. Google offers a framework for developers on the iPhone to monetize their apps using Google ads. In a recent blog post, Google said Apple’s ad-tracking update means developers “may see a significant impact” on their ad revenue.

To get the balance between keeping advertisers happy while improving privacy, the discussions around Google’s Android solution indicate that it could be similar to the Privacy Sandbox, its planned Chrome web browser changes. The company said in 2020 that it intended to phase out third-party cookies in Chrome within two years and reiterated the plan earlier this year. Cookies are a way for websites to track consumers of the web to serve them more personalized ads.

Privacy Sandbox allows some ad targeting with less-specific data collection. According to Bloomberg, “As part of that solution, the company has developed a technology called Federated Learning of Cohorts that lets advertisers target groups of people with similar interests rather than individuals. Google is likely to take a similar approach with Android.”
