Suryakumar Yadav : In a surprising turn of events, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed the captain of the Indian T20I team for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to return for the ODI series. This decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) marks a significant shift in leadership roles within the team.

Let’s have a look into more details: Suryakumar Yadav Named T20I Captain

Suryakumar Yadav: The New T20I Captain

Suryakumar Yadav, who has only led the Indian team seven times in his international career, has been named the T20I captain, bypassing the experienced Hardik Pandya, who has ten wins as captain to his name in T20Is. The selectors’ decision seems to be influenced by Pandya’s fitness history, making Suryakumar the preferred choice for now. Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain, adding to the excitement of a youthful leadership duo.

This series will be a major test for Suryakumar, who has shown great promise with his batting prowess. His elevation to captaincy marks a significant milestone in his career, especially considering he was once under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hardik, meanwhile, remains a key player in the T20I squad but without any leadership role.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Return for ODIs

In response to newly appointed coach Gautam Gambhir’s request, senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made themselves available for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Their presence is expected to bolster the team’s performance as they look to dominate the three match series.
