Suriya is back with a bang. His new Tamil release Vishwanath & Sons, co-starring Mamitha Baiju, has wrapped up a solid opening weekend — grossing Rs. 105 crore worldwide, riding on strong Independence Day footfalls and an even stronger show in an unexpected market.
A Good, Not Blockbuster, Weekend
The film collected Rs. 67.25 crore in India across three days, with Sunday actually growing 30-35% over a holiday-boosted Friday. Overseas, it added roughly USD 4 million (Rs. 38 crore), pushing the global tally past the Rs. 105 crore mark.

The Telugu States Steal the Show
Here’s the twist: despite being a Tamil film, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana (Rs. 27.25 cr) slightly outperformed Tamil Nadu (Rs. 26.25 cr) over the weekend. Karnataka and Kerala also chipped in solidly. Coming off his blockbuster Karuppu earlier this year, Suriya’s home-turf numbers here are more in line with his pre-Karuppu films — decent, but with room to grow.

Territorial Breakdown
| Territory | Gross |
|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu | Rs. 26.25 cr |
| Andhra Pradesh/Telangana | Rs. 27.25 cr |
| Karnataka | Rs. 8.00 cr |
| Kerala | Rs. 4.75 cr |
| Rest of India | Rs. 1.00 cr |
What’s Next
The real test begins now. Weekday holds will decide whether Vishwanath & Sons can sustain its run, especially in Tamil Nadu, where distributors will be watching closely. Suriya, one of Tamil cinema’s most consistent Kollywood stars, continues to be a reliable box office draw across South India.
