Suriya’s Karuppu Trailer Drops Tonight at 7 PM — Everything You Need to Know Before May 14

The wait is almost over. The official trailer for Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, drops tonight at 7:00 PM IST — and advance bookings are already open across Tamil Nadu, Canada, Malaysia, the UK, and Europe ahead of the May 14, 2026, theatrical release.

Suriya plays Saravanan, an advocate who — when unable to deliver justice through legal channels — is possessed by the deity Karuppasaami to deliver divine justice. Director RJ Balaji has called it a full-fledged mass superhero story built on action, dance, and emotion.

Quick Facts

Why This Film Is a Big Deal

Karuppu reunites Suriya and Trisha Krishnan after their 2005 film Aaru — a gap of over two decades. For fans who grew up watching that pairing, the nostalgia factor alone is enormous. Add a debutant director with RJ Balaji’s track record — he previously directed Mookuthi Amman and Veetla Vishesham — and you have a project that carries both commercial and creative weight.

The film is also a significant collaboration as it brings together Suriya with the producers of NGK, while reuniting RJ Balaji with the Dream Warrior Pictures banner behind Sorgavaasal.

The Road to May 14 — A Release That Almost Did Not Happen

Karuppu was originally planned for a Diwali release but got pushed back so the team could fix mistakes and improve the final cut. The film then missed Pongal as well — to avoid a clash with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi — before finally locking in May 14.

Even last week, delay rumours were swirling online. RJ Balaji addressed fans directly in a video, saying: “Next week this time, we will be busy releasing Karuppu. Trailer ready. I strongly believe you all will love it.” He also explained the trailer had been held back intentionally to avoid being drowned out by political news cycles — not because of any production issue.

The film has since been cleared with a UA certificate, and the production house confirmed the May 14 theatrical release on social media.

Music and Promotions

Sai Abhyankkar’s soundtrack has already been generating buzz since the audio launch in Madurai. The promotional campaign has leant into a raw, festival-deity aesthetic — Suriya breaking chains amid chili peppers and temple celebrations — building a distinctive visual identity that sets Karuppu apart from standard action fare.

The songs have drawn strong early response online, and with Sai Abhyankkar riding significant momentum after recent hits, the music is shaping up as one of the film’s key strengths.

What’s Next for Suriya?

Suriya is already lined up for more after Karuppu — he is working on Vishwanath & Sons with director Venky Atluri opposite Mamitha Baiju, and his 47th film directed by Jithu Madhavan of Aavesham fame, which stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen K Gafoor.

The Bottom Line

Karuppu arrives as one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of 2026 — a divine justice action drama with superstar casting, strong music, and a director ready to prove himself on a bigger canvas. The trailer tonight at 7 PM will tell us whether the hype is fully justified. Set your reminders.
