A big opening and a steady fall is the usual pattern for superstar films. Jailer 2 broke it. After a below-expectation Thursday, the film climbed every single day, and its Sunday in Tamil Nadu topped its opening day. That’s rare, and it matters.
Jailer 2 : Overview
| Detail | Info |
|---|---|
| Film | Jailer 2 |
| Lead | Rajinikanth |
| Extended weekend | 4 days (Thursday to Sunday) |
| India gross | About Rs 224 crore |
| Sunday (Day 4) | About Rs 62 crore, up around 20% from Saturday |
| Kollywood ranking | Third-highest ever, practically tied with Coolie (Rs 224.25 crore) for second |
| Hindi version | Rs 15 crore plus nett |
The Day-Wise Numbers
| Day | Gross (Rs crore) |
|---|---|
| Thursday | 67.25 |
| Friday | 42.50 |
| Saturday | 52.50 |
| Sunday | 61.75 |
| Total | 224.00 |
After Friday’s dip, the film rose on Saturday and again on Sunday. For a film of this size, that kind of recovery points to strong audience recommendations rather than just fan-driven openings. For more weekend trends, see Technosports’ box office coverage.
The Tamil Nadu Surprise
Tamil Nadu contributed nearly Rs 80 crore, and the key detail is Sunday: about Rs 23 crore, higher than the opening day. Pinkvilla’s analysis calls this almost unheard of for a big South Indian film, and says it bodes well for the long run. It expects two more Rs 20 crore days in the state, putting it on course for a Rs 200 crore final there.
State-Wise Breakdown
| Territory | Gross (Rs crore) |
|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu | 79.75 |
| Andhra Pradesh and Telangana | 43.00 |
| Karnataka | 39.00 |
| Kerala | 40.00 |
| Rest of India | 22.25 |
| India total | 224.00 |
The spread is the real story. This isn’t a one-state phenomenon: Kerala, Karnataka and the Telugu states all delivered strong numbers, which is what makes the film’s reach so impressive.
The Hindi Mini-Breakout
The Hindi dubbed version opened with Rs 3 crore and has netted over Rs 15 crore in the weekend, a small but real success. According to the analysis, a release in national multiplex chains could have taken it closer to Rs 25 crore nett.
Why This Weekend Matters?
| Signal | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| Daily growth after Friday | Positive word of mouth |
| Sunday above opening in Tamil Nadu | Strong long-run potential |
| Strength across states | Wide, stable audience |

Conclusion
A shaky opening followed by three growing days is the best kind of weekend story. With Tamil Nadu setting the pace and other regions backing it up, Jailer 2 looks set for a long, strong run.
