Stranger Things Creators Just Launched Their Next Big Netflix Hit — Will The Boroughs Get a Season 2?

If you’ve already binged The Boroughs and you’re sitting there with more questions than answers — welcome to the club. Netflix’s new sci-fi drama has proven an instant standout, with the Duffer Brothers teasing a three-season plan. But is Season 2 officially happening? Here’s the honest answer.

The Boroughs — Series Guide

What Is The Boroughs About?

In a seemingly perfect retirement community, a crew of unlikely heroes must stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have: time.

The series follows grieving widower Sam Cooper as he reluctantly moves into an idyllic retirement community in the New Mexico desert. Beneath the quiet routines and polished surface, strange things are lurking — pulling Sam into a supernatural mystery involving missing minerals, hidden secrets, and a group of retirees who may be the only ones capable of stopping what’s happening. Think Stranger Things meets The Golden Girls — but genuinely terrifying.

The All-Star Cast

This is one of the most decorated ensembles Netflix has assembled in years. Alfred Molina leads as Sam, with Geena Davis as Renee, Alfre Woodard as Judy, Denis O’Hare as Wally, Clarke Peters as Art, Bill Pullman as Jack, alongside Carlos Miranda, Jena Malone, Seth Numrich, Ed Begley Jr., Dee Wallace, and Jane Kaczmarek.

Co-showrunner Matthews recalls how “no one wants to let Alfred Molina down” on set — and when they first met Molina during casting, it was immediately clear: “He’s the guy.” Netflix Tudum

Will There Be a Season 2?

Here’s where things stand. Netflix has not officially renewed The Boroughs for Season 2 as of now. The show only just premiered, and Netflix typically evaluates viewership metrics over several weeks before making that call.

However, the signs are quietly encouraging. The WGA directory lists Season 2 as being in development for 2027/2028 — not a confirmation of a renewal, but a strong suggestion that new scripts are being prepared so the show can hit the ground running if the green light comes.

The Boroughs debuted at No. 5 globally in Netflix’s daily Top 10s, with the first batch of viewership numbers expected on May 26th.

If Netflix confirms a renewal in the coming months, a realistic estimate puts Season 2 somewhere around 2028 — since Season 1 itself took roughly three years from order to release. Flickonclick

The show is based on the tradition of supernatural mystery drama — a genre with deep roots in television storytelling — and its open-ended finale practically begs for continuation.
