Stolen Identity, Bloodied Shirts: New “Mousetrap” Stills Set Up Netflix’s Next Dark Thriller

A man loses his name, his money, and his entire life to a stranger wearing his own face — and Netflix’s newest thriller wants you hooked from the first frame. New stills from “Mousetrap” have dropped, and the tension is already off the charts.

Based on a webtoon, “Mousetrap” follows Moon Jae (Ryu Jun Yeol), a reclusive novelist who loses everything — his name, identity, and fortune — to a mysterious man known only as “The Rat”; Noja (Sul Kyung Gu), a loan shark determined to recover his missing money; and detective Sun Yong (Lee Kyu Hyung), who gets pulled into the case while investigating The Rat’s identity. soompi

A Face-Stealing Mystery With No Easy Answers

The new stills paint a portrait of a man unraveling. Images show Moon Jae arguing with community center officials and staring out windows in anger, capturing the confusion of someone whose entire identity has been ripped away.

His doppelgänger only deepens the mystery. The Rat shares Moon Jae’s exact face but carries a polished, cold demeanor, raising unanswered questions about their connection and why he stole Moon Jae’s life in the first place.

Meanwhile, alliances shift in unexpected ways. Noja initially sets out to track down Moon Jae to recover his missing money, but stills later show him chasing The Rat alongside Moon Jae instead — hinting at a dramatic turn in their relationship. Other images of an injured Moon Jae and a bloodstained Noja foreshadow a brutal, life-or-death pursuit ahead.

The supporting cast adds even more intrigue. Detective Sun Yong is shown conducting a nighttime stakeout, still an enigma as to how he became entangled in The Rat’s game, while new faces like Seung Gyu (Kim Sung Oh) and Myung Soo (Hyun Bong Sik) hint at a wider criminal network converging on the story.

This “stolen identity” premise taps into a genre with rich cinematic history — Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo helped popularize psychological thrillers built around obsession, doubles, and identity, a template modern K-thrillers like this one continue to reinvent.
