Every time a new update drops about Varanasi, the internet collectively loses its mind — and this latest one is genuinely jaw-dropping. According to reports, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus starring Mahesh Babu is reportedly set to film a schedule in Antarctica, which would make it one of the very few feature films ever shot on the frozen continent.
Official confirmation from the makers is still awaited, but if true, this would be yet another moment where Rajamouli pushes Indian cinema into territory no one thought possible.

What Is Varanasi Actually About?
Think globe-trotting. Think time travel. Think an asteroid crashing into one of India’s most sacred cities and unleashing chaos that could doom the world. Mahesh Babu plays Rudhra, a daring adventurer who must traverse continents and timelines to prevent Earth’s most critical catastrophe — and he’s also confirmed to portray Lord Rama in the film.
The scale is unmistakably Rajamouli — the man who took us from a waterfall battle in Baahubali to a CGI tiger in RRR. Shooting in Antarctica, the most remote and extreme location on Earth, fits perfectly into that pattern of cinematic ambition.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas makes her long-awaited return to Indian cinema in this film, calling it career-defining in a recent interview. Her character Mandakini is portrayed in a full action avatar — far from a decorative role. And Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Kumbha, a supervillain whose destructive vision threatens humanity itself.
Reports also suggest supporting roles for Prakash Raj and Kichcha Sudeepa, though nothing has been confirmed officially yet.
With filming reportedly ongoing sporadically through 2026 and the production already having ventured to Georgia for action sequences, the team’s ambition for a truly global cinematic spectacle is very real.
