Just when Cheon Yeo Ri thought heartbreak was the worst thing she’d face this week, “Spooky in Love” throws her into a murder investigation — with her ex-fiancé as the arresting officer.
Spooky In Love: The Story So Far
A remake of the 2011 film Spellbound, tvN’s “Spooky in Love” follows Cheon Yeo Ri (Park Eun Bin), a hotel heiress who sees ghosts, and Ma Gang Wook (Yang Se Jong), a prosecutor terrified of them. The two fell for each other while solving unsolved cases, moved from a fake engagement into a real relationship, and even held an engagement party — until Ma Gang Wook’s grandmother warned Cheon Yeo Ri that their bond might be shortening his lifespan. Heartbroken, she chose to break up with him out of love.

Why This Twist Hits So Hard
This isn’t just a plot device — it’s the cruelest possible timing. The show has spent its runtime building Cheon Yeo Ri and Ma Gang Wook’s romance around supernatural chaos and unsolved cases, but now the danger isn’t ghosts, it’s each other’s trust. Watching Ma Gang Wook process seeing the woman he just lost as a potential murder suspect adds real emotional weight to what could’ve been a straightforward mystery cliffhanger — and it sets up a tense next stretch of episodes where the couple has to navigate both a criminal investigation and the wreckage of their breakup.
