Sony Interactive Entertainment is raising the price of the PlayStation 5 in a number of areas, blaming poor currency trends and global economic difficulties as the main causes. The decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) for the PS5 was painful, but it was required by worldwide inflation, according to SIE CEO Jim Ryan in a blog post.

All of Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and portions of North America are among the regions impacted by the price hike. However, the United States is untouched.

Jim Ryan finished the blog post by stating that, despite the price hike, Sony’s primary goal is continuing strengthening the PS5 production’s supply chain to maintain the console’s availability across all regions. This week, Sony unveiled the DualSense Edge, a new high-end controller, along with the news that the PSVR 2 would debut in early 2023.

According to one analyst, the price increase that Sony made for the PlayStation 5 in Europe and other regions of the world will have “little” effects on console sales. The expert added that it gives Microsoft “some advantage” in the competition for console sales.

Microsoft has stated that it won’t be upping Xbox prices. Harding-Rolls anticipated that Microsoft would use the higher PS5 price as an opportunity to highlight the benefits of its $300 Xbox Series S, Game Pass, and All Access service before the holiday season. As a result, Microsoft gains from this action, according to Harding-Rolls.
