A new patent has now surfaved that reveals a 3D Scanner that could allow gamers to put real-world items into video games and VR Spaces. As per a report by GameRant, the patent was initially submitted to the patent office back in June of 2021, however, Sony has had to make certain alterations and submit it again as the first patent application had some areas of conflicts with some other patents.

In a figure provided in the patent, we can observe that the upcoming tech will allow users to scan real-life objects, which can then be rendered into the virtual space, Sony has not yet explicitly mentioned any specific use of the technology.

Still, there are some possible applications that can be used in VR games to render real-life items into the game, uses in the evergrowing metaverse to generate your real-life possessions into the cirtual space, and even a tool for animators and game developers which could potentially ease their jobs to a greater extent.

However, the notable aspect here is that Sony has not yet been granted the patent yet, so it will be a while before we see this actually take shape. It is fascinating as this is another step in the direction of popularizing the Metaverse, we are already seeing a lot of top technology firms buy into this concept and they are investing in it as well.

What are your thoughts on the concept of Metaverse? Will it be able to live up to the hype or not?
