Sonic Speeds Back To Netflix: New Animated Series Confirmed As Part Of Massive SEGA Deal

The Blue Blur isn’t done with Netflix yet. Following the success of Sonic Prime, Netflix and SEGA have announced a brand-new animated Sonic series — one part of a much bigger, multi-project partnership between the two companies.

Here’s everything confirmed so far about Sonic’s next streaming adventure.

What’s Confirmed About The New Sonic Series

A Different Take On Sonic

Sonic Prime leaned into a multiverse-hopping adventure aimed at older kids across its three seasons. This new series takes a noticeably different approach, aimed at a younger, upper pre-school audience — but SEGA and Netflix are promising the show won’t lose the franchise’s signature edge.

The series has been described as high-energy and comedic while staying emotionally grounded, built for kids who want a bit of attitude and the kind of “found family” energy that’s made Sonic’s crew so beloved over the years.

SEGA’s Toru Nakahara teased the tone directly, promising something that stays cute while keeping Sonic’s cool factor intact, and noted the creative team is genuinely excited about what’s ahead.

Who’s Behind The New Series

Production is currently underway with Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara attached. Nakahara brings serious pedigree to the project, having served as a key producer on Paramount’s blockbuster live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films, the Knuckles spin-off, and Netflix’s own Sonic Prime — a track record that suggests the franchise’s core identity is in safe hands.

Part Of A Much Bigger Netflix-SEGA Push

This Sonic series is just one piece of a larger partnership that also includes a live-action Crazy Taxi comedy and a gritty crime drama based on RGG Studio’s STRANGER THAN HEAVEN IP. Netflix’s Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction and Transmedia, highlighted the appeal of working across such different eras of SEGA’s catalog, from beloved characters to iconic gaming eras.

The move fits into Netflix’s rapidly growing slate of video game adaptations, which already includes projects tied to Minecraft, Assassin’s Creed, Clash of Clans, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, among others.
