Essential Workbench Hunting Tips

Before diving into specific locations, keep these strategies in mind:

Bring lockpicks and bolt cutters: Many workbenches hide behind locked doors or gates. You’ll need these tools to access secured areas without alerting guards.

Look for Resistance symbols: Buildings marked with the Resistance cross often contain workbenches, particularly in village areas.

Check second floors: Several workbenches are located on upper floors, requiring you to climb vines or stack crates to reach them.

Mission Highlights: Where to Find Critical Workbenches

Mission 2: Dead Drop – Triple Threat

This mission contains three workbenches, making it crucial for early upgrades:

Pistol: Outside the library, follow the tunnel path to find a gate requiring lockpicking or bolt cutters.
SMG: At the Citadel’s left-hand yard, circle around to unlock the metal gate.
Rifle: Inside the monastery’s second floor at the western zone—climb crates to reach it.

Mission 4: Collision Course – Hidden Gems

The SMG workbench here is particularly tricky: Follow the western path to a stranded train near a sabotage objective, then look for a metal gate left of the objective. Climb down the ladder to find it.

Mission 6: Fort Rouge – Underground Discovery

The SMG workbench requires careful navigation: Head to the Derelict Streets in the southeastern map section, find an orange generator at the intersection, then walk straight to descend steps leading to the workbench below.

Mission 8: End of the Line – Final Push

For the pistol workbench: Travel to No Man’s Land where AA guns need destroying. A lone standing house in the field contains the workbench—climb vines and shimmy across wooden handrails to reach the top.

Why Workbenches Matter

Each workbench type offers unique benefits:

Pistol Workbenches: Enhance close-quarters combat with stealth suppressors, extended magazines, and weight reduction for faster weapon switching.

SMG Workbenches: Improve secondary weapon handling, recoil control, and barrel modifications for better accuracy during intense firefights.

Rifle Workbenches: Unlock marksmanship enhancements, caliber conversions, and mobility upgrades that define your sniping effectiveness.

Achievement Unlocked: Innovator

Finding all 24 workbenches earns the “Innovator” achievement, proving your mastery of French terrain exploration. Beyond bragging rights, fully upgraded weapons transform difficult encounters into manageable challenges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I return to previous missions to collect missed workbenches?

A: Yes! Sniper Elite: Resistance allows mission replay from the campaign menu. You can return to any completed mission to locate missed workbenches, and your upgrades carry over across all playthroughs. This means you can focus on objectives during your first run and sweep for collectibles later without penalty.

Q: Do workbench upgrades apply to all weapons or just specific ones?

A: Workbench rewards are weapon-specific. Pistol workbenches only upgrade pistols, SMG workbenches only affect secondary weapons, and rifle workbenches exclusively enhance sniper rifles. However, once unlocked, these upgrades become available for all weapons within that category, meaning a pistol upgrade works for any pistol you acquire throughout the campaign.
