Six Teams and Counting: Every Superhero Squad Now Active in James Gunn’s DCU

The new DCU isn’t just building heroes one at a time anymore — it’s assembling entire teams. With Lanterns now showing Hal Jordan and John Stewart working together as partners on the ground, James Gunn’s universe has officially reached its sixth confirmed superhero team, and there are still more waiting in the wings.

Six Teams, One Universe

Since launching in late 2024, DC Studios has steadily introduced groups on both sides of the hero-villain line, each with its own tone, mission, and roster. Here’s how they stack up so far.

The DCU’s Six Confirmed Teams

Breaking Down Each Team

Task Force X, the DCU’s version of the Suicide Squad, remains the franchise’s original team, last seen led by Idris Elba’s Bloodsport and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. With reports of Bane and Deathstroke getting their own movie, there’s real potential for the roster to expand further down the line.

Task Force M, introduced in Creature Commandos, brings together non-human, monstrous operatives under Amanda Waller after Congress banned human deployments. Season 2 is already confirmed to add King Shark, Nosferata, and Khalis to the lineup.

The Justice Gang, first seen in 2025’s Superman, is funded by Maxwell Lord and features Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific. With Metamorpho a likely future addition, the team could also pull in established heroes like Supergirl or Blue Beetle down the road.

The Top Trio, from Peacemaker Season 2, was a short-lived Earth-X team featuring Peacemaker himself alongside Captain Triumph and White Dragon. While this particular lineup likely won’t return, Peacemaker remains a strong candidate to resurface in a future team, whether that’s the Justice Gang or a reshuffled Suicide Squad.

The Green Lantern Corps, gradually taking shape through Lanterns, currently centers on Hal Jordan and his protégé John Stewart, who move from solo operators into an actual working partnership by the season’s midpoint. This sets the stage for the wider intergalactic Corps — potentially bringing in classic Lanterns like Kilowog, Alan Scott, or Jessica Cruz eventually.

What’s Coming Next?

DC Studios isn’t stopping at six. A new version of the Justice League is already teased, with David Corenswet’s Superman confirmed as its first core member, while Birds of Prey remains a strong candidate for a female-led team spotlight. A planned Authority film, known for its morally gray, no-holds-barred approach, was announced but has since been shelved due to script issues.

This steady build toward interconnected super-teams echoes how comic book publishers have long used ensemble groups to expand storytelling possibilities, a structural approach central to DC Comics’ decades-long publishing history across its various superhero titles.
