The announcement marks a significant shift from Aamir Khan’s earlier stance, when he had adamantly refused to release the film on traditional streaming platforms, instead opting for an experimental YouTube pay-per-view model. When Sitaare Zameen Par released theatrically on June 20, 2025, Aamir Khan made headlines by announcing that the film would skip traditional OTT releases entirely. Instead, he introduced a pay-per-view model on his YouTube channel Aamir Khan Talkies, where viewers could rent the film for approximately ₹100. At the time, Khan stated he preferred earning ₹100 from audiences through his private cinema model rather than accepting multi-crore offers from OTT platforms.

However, after nine months of successful performance across multiple platforms, Khan has now confirmed the film will stream on SonyLIV. While the exact premiere date hasn’t been officially announced, the film is expected to arrive on the platform by the end of March 2026.

The film emerged as the sixth highest-grossing Hindi-language film of 2025 and the eleventh highest-grossing Indian film overall, demonstrating its broad appeal across audiences and regions.

Film Synopsis and Spiritual Sequel Status

Sitaare Zameen Par follows Gulshan Arora, a basketball coach whose life takes an unexpected turn after a drunk-driving incident lands him in community service. As part of his sentencing, he is assigned to train a team of neurodivergent players for a basketball tournament. What begins as a reluctant responsibility evolves into a deeply personal journey, as Gulshan discovers the team’s resilience, spirit, and extraordinary outlook on life, ultimately realizing they become his greatest teachers.

The film is considered a spiritual successor to Aamir Khan’s critically acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par and is an official remake of the Spanish film Champions. It addresses themes of disability inclusion and social responsibility in mainstream Indian cinema.
