What Did the Director Reveal?

Speaking at the Jeppiar Icon Awards, director Ashwath Marimuthu confirmed that while Dragon advocated the importance of education, STR51 will focus on paradise — though he assured the message will flow naturally through the story rather than be imposed on it. He described it as a fantastic script with many interesting elements that he cannot yet reveal.

The director also dropped a few fan-friendly nuggets. He confirmed that actor Santhanam will be part of the film, that the music director is someone audiences deeply love, and that the movie will feature multiple heroines.

What Kind of Film Is STR51?

STR51 is said to be a fantasy romantic action film, with Simbu reportedly playing the role of the “God of Love.” The filmmaker has promised a film reminiscent of the actor’s vintage ventures, positioning it as a callback to the STR that fans fell in love with.

Earlier there were reports that Mrunal Thakur could make her Tamil debut with this film, though this remains officially unconfirmed. With multiple heroines now confirmed, the casting news could drop any time once the scripting wraps up.

Meanwhile, STR51 is currently in the scripting stage, and shooting is likely to begin alongside the final schedule of Arasan — Simbu’s ongoing gangster actioner with director Vetrimaaran set in the Vada Chennai cinematic universe alongside Vijay Sethupathi.
