Cricket fans know Shikhar Dhawan for his fearless batting. Now he is making headlines off the field. On October 9, 2026, he joined Delhi’s Home and Education Minister, Ashish Sood, to inaugurate a new STEM Lab at CM Shri School, Janakpuri. The aim is to let students learn by doing, not just by reading.
What Was Launched by Shikhar Dhawan Foundation?
The lab was opened under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. That campaign marks 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public service and promotes the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision. The project sits under the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation’s STEM Shiksha initiative, with CSR support from Sportskeeda. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

From Digital Classrooms to Hands-On Labs
STEM Shiksha builds on the Foundation’s earlier Digital Shiksha programme, which focused on technology-enabled learning. The new lab takes that idea a step further. Instead of staying in the classroom, students get a dedicated space to explore and experiment. It is being carried out in collaboration with the Government of NCT of Delhi, with a focus on future-ready learning for students in government schools.
What the Leaders Said?
Minister Ashish Sood said STEM labs help children move beyond textbooks and learn through experience and experimentation. He also encouraged Dhawan and his Foundation to take the model to more Delhi schools. Dhawan said he was glad to see the initiative grow, thanked the Delhi Government for its trust, and welcomed Sportskeeda as CSR partner. Anshita Gupta thanked the Government and Sportskeeda for backing the programme.
Why It Matters?
Access is often the gap in education, and good intentions don’t close it on their own. Labs like this give students practical exposure that many schools struggle to provide. The Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, founded in 2022, works across education, healthcare, hunger eradication, livelihoods and sports. Its flagship programmes include Digital Shiksha, Youngistaan and Livelihood On Wheels.
