Paris is Flooding — and the Sharks Are Back: Everything We Know About Under Paris 2 on Netflix

The sharks aren’t done with Paris. Nearly two years after Under Paris became one of Netflix’s biggest non-English film launches ever, the sequel is quietly building momentum — with a new director, fresh casting calls, and a terrifying new premise. Here’s every confirmed detail so far.

Under Paris 2 — What We Know

Why This Sequel Is a Very Big Deal

The original Under Paris wasn’t just a hit — it was a record-breaker. It became the second most-watched non-English film launch in Netflix history and spent a staggering 21 weeks in the Global Top 10 Non-English Films chart in 2024. For a French-language shark thriller, those are extraordinary numbers that essentially made a sequel inevitable.

Now, industry reports from the Hollywood Reporter indicate that director Alexandre Aja — the man behind Piranha 3D and Crawl — is closing a deal to helm the sequel, replacing the original’s director Xavier Gens. Aja’s experience with creature features and demanding underwater shoots makes him a logical and genuinely exciting choice for the franchise. What’s the New Plot?

The working title Paris Sous Les Eaux — which translates to “Paris Under Water” — hints that the sequel is going far bigger than the original. Rather than sharks lurking in the Seine, the story is expected to centre around a massive Parisian flood and the full-scale chaos that follows. Think city-wide disaster film meets underwater horror. Bérénice Béjo is confirmed to be returning, with casting calls for stunt doubles and extras already active for a late March 2026 shoot in both Paris and Marseille.

It’s the kind of escalation that turns a hit into a proper franchise — and with Aja at the helm, the creature horror credentials are firmly in place. Catch all the latest Netflix horror and thriller announcements with our ongoing coverage at TechnoSports.

What’s the Release Date?

Netflix has not officially confirmed the sequel’s existence, release date, or Aja’s involvement as of March 2026. However, with active filming underway, a 2027 release appears the most realistic window.
