Seinfeld Isn’t Going Anywhere — Netflix Just Locked It In Until 2031

Fans anxiously refreshing “leaving soon” lists can finally relax. The show about nothing just secured everything it needed to stay put, and Netflix isn’t being quiet about how much it wants to keep it.

The Deal, Explained

Netflix has renewed its licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Television to keep all 180 episodes of “Seinfeld” streaming for another five years, pushing its availability through 2031. The original deal, reportedly worth around $500 million, brought the sitcom to Netflix back in 2021 and was set to expire on October 1, 2026.

Why Netflix Fought to Keep It

After losing major licensed hits like “Friends” and “The Office” to other platforms, Netflix aggressively secured “Seinfeld” as a flagship comfort-watch title. Nearly four years later, the numbers justify the price tag — the show pulled in over 1.8 billion streaming hours globally between 2023 and 2026 alone, proof that a 37-year-old sitcom about nothing still means everything to a massive chunk of Netflix’s audience.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos called it one of the greatest comedies in TV history, while Sony’s Keith Le Goy pointed to the renewal as proof that great IP “stands the test of time.”

What Changes Internationally

There was some early confusion suggesting Netflix might only retain U.S. and Canadian rights, but Sony has confirmed Netflix remains the global streaming home for the show. The one shift: Sony now has flexibility to license “Seinfeld” non-exclusively to other platforms internationally alongside Netflix, something to watch for in overseas markets down the line.

Bottom Line

Whether you’re a longtime “Seinfeld” (the American sitcom created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David) loyalist or a newer fan who discovered it through Netflix, Monk’s Diner isn’t closing its doors anytime soon.
