If you’ve ever had a lazy Sunday afternoon made infinitely better by quietly restoring a barren wasteland into a lush, thriving rainforest on your phone — we have some genuinely sad news. Terra Nil, widely regarded as Netflix Games’ best puzzle title, is leaving the platform on March 27, 2026. You have just a few weeks left to play it for free.

What Makes Terra Nil So Special?

In a world flooded with games about building, consuming, and expanding, Terra Nil flips the entire concept on its head. Instead of constructing cities and burning through resources, you’re handed a lifeless wasteland and tasked with restoring it to ecological balance — purifying toxic soil, reviving oceans, cultivating biomes like wetlands, tundra, and rainforests, and reintroducing wildlife that belongs there.

It’s meditative, it’s gorgeous, and it’s genuinely unlike anything else in the Netflix Games library. Developed by Free Lives and published by indie legend Devolver Digital, the game earned widespread critical acclaim when it launched on Netflix in March 2023 as one of the crown jewels of the platform’s early gaming push.

Why Is It Being Removed?

This isn’t a content decision — it’s a contracts one. Netflix Games operates on fixed-term licensing agreements, typically structured in three-year windows with third-party publishers. Since Terra Nil arrived almost exactly three years ago, the deal has simply run its course. Netflix has been quietly letting dozens of third-party titles lapse, with the mobile games library now dipping below 100 titles — and over 50 games removed since the gaming push began.

Other March 2026 casualties include Hello Kitty and Game Dev Tycoon. Netflix appears to be pivoting its gaming strategy toward internal IPs rather than renewing pricey third-party licenses.

Can You Still Play It After March 27?

Yes — but not on Netflix. After the removal date, the game will be bricked on your device even if it remains installed. Your options going forward are Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, or the Nintendo Switch eShop. One important heads-up: Netflix save data will not carry over, so finish your current playthrough before the deadline hits.
