The movie failed to make a mark commercially when it first hit theatres. It earned just Rs 9.1 crore in its initial run. Before Sanam Teri Kasam made history, Tumbbad (2018) had set the benchmark for successful re-releases. Initially, Tumbbad had only made Rs 13.5 crore during its original run. But when it was re-released six years later, it found a new audience and collected Rs 30.50 crore in a four-week run. It showed that films with strong storytelling and unique elements can have a second life.

Similarly, the Tamil film Ghilli, starring Vijay and Trisha, was the first re-released movie to cross Rs 30 crore in earnings. It even surpassed the re-releases of Avatar and Sholay. Now, with Sanam Teri Kasam taking the lead, it’s clear that audiences are increasingly looking to relive old cinematic experiences.
