Samsung and AMD began working together on a new Exynos chipset with AMD’s graphics in 2019. The new chip was supposed to be released in two years, but now the corporation has officially verified that it will be released. According to a fresh tweet from the Samsung Exynos Twitter account, the business will release its first AMD RDNA2-based processor on January 11, 2022.
The new CPU also arrives just in time for the anticipated Galaxy S22 series flagship phones, which are set to debut in February. This hints that the upcoming flagship S22 phones will be powered by AMD’s new GPU-based technology.
“The game industry is set to take off. “Stay tuned for the upcoming #Exynos with the new GPU created from RDNA 2 on January 11, 2022,” read the tweet.
What is AMD-RDNA, and how does it work?
The Radeon graphics architecture, which was first seen on the company’s Radeon RX 5000 series GPUs, is referred to as RDNA. Consoles such as the Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Xbox Series S/X use the latest RDNA 2 GPU technology. It can also be found on the more recent Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards.
The technology’s arrival on a mobile processor might represent a huge step forward for mobile gaming, allowing for far more possibilities than the existing Adreno graphics. It’s unclear whether the new CPUs will be available in the S22 series right now, including the Note-like S22 Ultra and later flagships.
Even if the new S22 phones do arrive with the latest Exynos chip, we don’t know where it will be available this year. According to a prior source, Samsung may begin selling Snapdragon-powered phones in more places this year, including India, where Samsung flagships have usually been sold using the company’s own Exynos chipsets.
