Samsung will use different AMD mRDNA GPUs in its next-generation Galaxy A series

Samsung is set to equip its next generation of Galaxy A series phones with a weaker variant of the Exynos 2200 that will debut on the Galaxy S22 series. This chipset, also featuring an AMD mRDNA GPU, which will be used in the A series and S series.

As we all know Samsung has partnered with AMD to bring RDNA GPU architecture to its Exynos mobile chipsets. And now news has arrived that Samsung will use mRDNA GPU in Exynos chipsets.

According to Clien via Front Tron, the next-gen Galaxy A-series devices will feature a new Exynos chipset with AMD’s mRDNA GPU. According to the source, Samsung will be using three different types of AMD mRDNA GPU for its Exynos mobile SoCs. They will differ in the number of cores and clock speeds. The one that is for Galaxy A series devices is currently being tested at 1GHz. Their Exynos SoCs could also use ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores instead of the X series.

The flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S series will be getting a 6-core GPU at an unspecified clock rate. Whereas, the mid-range and budget handsets like the Galaxy A series are said to use 4-core and 2-core GPUs respectively.

For now, it’s still unknown exactly which Galaxy A devices will get to try out the mRDNA GPU with new Exynos chips, but sources are taking their guess on the Galaxy A53 or A73. Although it’s nice knowing that these more affordable devices will be getting flagship tech specs, we still hope that the company won’t raise the price for that reason.
