Samsung warns of semiconductor shortage to continue until the second half of 2022

The global chip shortage, which has impacted almost every industry we can think of, is no stranger to anyone, and the smartphone industry is no exception. This shortage of chips has impacted Samsung as well, and the South Korean conglomerate appears to have a timeline for when things will begin to return to normal.

According to sources, the issue was discussed by TM Roh, Samsung Mobile’s president, during a meeting with senior executives and executives from over 30 of the company’s major smartphone component suppliers.

The chip shortage, according to Samsung, will last until the second half of 2022. The Elec is the source of this information.

Samsung, according to reports, is taking several steps to alleviate the shortages. To ensure chip production capacity, the company will push for annual contracts with chip foundries. Furthermore, instead of stocking up to two weeks’ worth of chip supplies, the company will now stock up to four weeks’ worth.

Samsung stated at the meeting that chipsets and RF chips, in particular, will be in short supply until H2 2022. Samsung, on the other hand, is taking several steps to alleviate the shortages. Samsung will push for annual contracts with chip foundries to secure the chip production capacity, according to the publication’s sources. The company is also said to be stocking up to four weeks’ worth of chip supplies rather than the two weeks it appears to be doing right now.

Due to a chip constraint, the debut of the Galaxy S21 FE has been pushed back to January 2022, putting the introduction of the Galaxy S22 range to February. Meanwhile, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon stated that the chip shortage is easing and that the situation will improve next year.

According to Amon, supply has increased this year compared to 2020, and it is likely to improve even more in 2022. Qualcomm was unable to supply enough CPUs to several smartphone manufacturers, causing production delays.
