Matter 1.5 Camera Capabilities
Matter 1.5, announced by the Connectivity Standard Alliance (CSA) in November, adds comprehensive camera support alongside enhanced features for closure operations (blinds, awnings, garage doors) and improved energy management.
The standard supports live video streaming, two-way communication, motion detection, event history, and pan-tilt-zoom controls—covering indoor/outdoor security cameras, video doorbells, and more. This marks a significant milestone as cameras represent essential components of any smart home ecosystem.

Seamless Integration for Manufacturers
Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics, stated: “We will continue to expand our support for industry standards, including Matter, and further strengthen collaboration to drive new customer experiences.”
Camera manufacturers can now launch Matter-based cameras integrating seamlessly with SmartThings without customizing separate APIs. Samsung has collaborated with leading IoT device makers including Aqara, Eve, and Ulticam to develop Matter cameras launching March 2026.
Enhanced User Experience
SmartThings already partners with Aqara, Arlo, Hue, Ring, and others for smart camera experiences across various protocols. The Matter 1.5 update expands user choices, allowing easy integration of Matter cameras into the SmartThings ecosystem.
Integration enables essential functions like monitoring home environments remotely, checking pet well-being, and configuring customized routines by connecting with smart doorbells. Users can build safe, convenient smart homes tailored to their lifestyles.

Industry-Leading Device Support
Samsung SmartThings continues expanding global partnerships through its open-platform strategy. The WWST (Works With SmartThings) certification program now supports over 4,700 models from 390+ partner brands, with 58 Matter device types integrated into everyday life.
This industry-first Matter camera support strengthens Samsung’s position as the smart home platform with the broadest Matter device compatibility. For more smart home tech updates, visit TechnoSports.
