Samsung’s upcoming XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, is likely to debut later this year. The known specifications of the device have recently surfaced on Geekbench and confirm that it will be the first ever extended reality (XR) wearable from Samsung. It’s anticipated to be built on Android XR– a newly crafted OS from Google for XR equipment. Project Moohan may be one device in a larger collection, as Samsung is also said to be working on other smart wearables.

The model number of the device is SM-I6I0 as per the listing on Geekbench. It is powered by a Snapdragon chipset with a six-core CPU: two cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four at 2.05GHz. The GPU is listed as the Adreno 740, the same GPU found in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets. This confirms the headset will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 SoC, designed for immersive XR experiences.

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 brings significant improvements, such as dual 3K display support, Wi-Fi 7, as well as the ability to handle input from up to 10 concurrent cameras and sensors. This makes it particularly well-suited for mixed reality and augmented reality applications. The headset is loaded with 15.04GB RAM (meaning 16GB when rounded up) and is powered by Android 14, which is presumably the basis of Google’s Android XR OS.

On Geekbench, the Project Moohan headset scored 990 in single-core and 2,453 in multi-core tests, which would seem to be reasonably solid performance for XR apps. These numbers translate into the headset being able to multitask and having enough graphics muscle to push the best visuals on that OLED screen. Samsung has yet to announce an official launch date for Project Moohan. However, more details could emerge during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, where the company is also expected to unveil its latest foldable smartphones. Additionally, Samsung is working on a pair of AR glasses, which are rumored to launch after the XR headset.
