Each Samsung division contributes specialized expertise to support OpenAI’s expanding computational needs and innovative infrastructure solutions.

Samsung Electronics will serve as OpenAI’s strategic memory partner, supplying advanced semiconductor solutions with OpenAI’s projected memory demand reaching up to 900,000 DRAM wafers monthly. The comprehensive semiconductor provider offers high-performance, energy-efficient DRAM solutions spanning memory, logic, and foundry technologies supporting the full AI workflow from training to inference.

Samsung brings differentiated capabilities in advanced chip packaging and heterogeneous integration between memory and system semiconductors, enabling unique solutions tailored for OpenAI’s computational requirements. This positions Samsung as a critical supplier for the massive Stargate AI infrastructure buildout.

Samsung SDS: Enterprise AI Services & Data Centers

Samsung SDS will collaborate with OpenAI in design, development, and operation of Stargate AI data centers, leveraging expertise in advanced data center technologies. The partnership enables Samsung SDS to provide consulting, deployment, and management services for businesses integrating OpenAI’s AI models into internal systems.

Samsung SDS has also signed a reseller partnership for OpenAI’s services in Korea, supporting local companies adopting ChatGPT Enterprise offerings. This positions Samsung SDS as a key enabler of AI transformation across Korean businesses.

Floating Data Centers: Innovation in AI Infrastructure

Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries will jointly develop floating data centers with OpenAI—an innovative solution addressing land scarcity, lowering cooling costs, and reducing carbon emissions. Despite technical complexity limiting wider deployment, Samsung’s proprietary shipbuilding and maritime technologies position the partnership to overcome these challenges.

The collaboration will also explore floating power plants and control centers beyond data center infrastructure, representing a groundbreaking approach to AI infrastructure scalability.
