Samsung and Xiaomi lead smartphone Shipment in India with a strong $3.7 billion output

According to a report released Thursday by Cybermedia Research (CMR), Samsung, Xiaomi, and Realme had strong shipments by value in the India smartphone market in Q4 2021.

Samsung supplied smartphones worth $2 billion in Q4 2021, followed by Xiaomi and Realme with $1.7 billion and $1.1 billion in shipments, respectively, according to the company.

Meanwhile, according to CMR, overall market shipments increased 11% year over year to 166 million devices by the end of CY2021, with smartphone market revenue reaching $37 billion. Xiaomi lead the market with a share of 21% (by shipments) in the third quarter, followed by Realme (17%) and Samsung (16 percent ).

“5G played a key role in this overall growth with its contribution increasing to 17% in CY2021. 5G shipments increased significantly (43%) in the value for money (INR 7,000 – INR 24,999) smartphone segment,” according to Shipra Sinha, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group, CMR.

Xiaomi’s 5G shipments increased by 76 percent quarter over quarter thanks to the debut of its 11 series models, while one-third of Samsung’s handsets sold in Q4 were 5G compatible, according to the company.

5G plays a vital part in overall market growth, according to Shipra Sinha, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, with its contribution increasing to 17% in CY2021. “In the value for money (Rs 7,000 – Rs 24,999) smartphone market, 5G shipments surged dramatically (43 percent),” Jain said.

Apple, on the other hand, had the most successful year in 2021, with shipments up 31% year over year. It had an 81 percent market share in the’super premium’ (Rs 50,000-1,00,000) segment. Apple’s total revenue for fiscal year 2021 was roughly $5 billion.

Due to increased competition in the premium smartphone sector, OnePlus’ shipments fell by 9% year over year. The OnePlus Nord 2 was the top-selling overall model in the premium class, accounting for more over 40% of OnePlus’s market share (Rs 25,000-50,000).

Finally, overall shipments for the Transsion Group brands (Itel, Infinix, and Tecno) fell 5% year over year. On an annual basis, its smartphone shipments dropped by 14%. LYF has dethroned itel in the low-cost smartphone sector (around Rs 7,000). Tecno and Infinix smartphone shipments also decreased by 5% and 4%, respectively, year over year. The total revenue from the transaction was $1.7 billion.
