FC Goa 5-0 Chennaiyin FC: 3 talking points as Gaurs dominate vital game

FC Goa defeated Chennaiyin FC 5-0 in the ISL, with Jorge Ortiz netting a hat-trick to give his side a big win. Here are the three key talking points from the game.

One-sided fixture for FC Goa

Chennaiyin FC were not allowed an opportunity to grow into the game and show their attacking prowess. The Gaurs were on the front foot from the get-go, and found the back of the net as early as the sixth minute courtesy of Makan Chothe.

FC Goa never let up after getting the breakthrough, and managed to go four goals up by the time they went back into the tunnel for half time.

Jorge Ortiz – the undisputed Hero of the Match

The Spaniard got into the action from the 20th minute, and scored a brace heading into half time. He finished off a chance presented by Aibanbha Dohling a few minutes into the second half to make it five for his side and complete the hat-trick.

The 29-year-old showed the clinicality that FC Goa have lacked in front of goal, and helped put away the plethora of chances that they created throughout the game.

What this means for both teams

It was a must-win fixture for both teams at the business end of the season. And FC Goa made the most of the opportunity by dominating the game. As a result, they have kept their hopes of potentially sneaking into a top four spot alive, however little they may be given the tight margin.

On the other hand, although Chennaiyin FC are in a better position in the table, the big challenge will be to not be demoralised from the big loss, and focus on the next games to break into the playoff spots.
