Marvel has been keeping one of its biggest secrets under lock and key. But when multiple credible insiders, trailer clues, and leaked script details all point in the same direction, it’s time to stop calling it a rumour.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026, and the single biggest question surrounding it isn’t about Tom Holland or the villains — it’s about Sadie Sink, and exactly who she’s playing.

What the Insiders Are Saying
Ever since Sink joined Spider-Man: Brand New Day in March 2025, speculation has swirled that she would be playing Jean Grey. While Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed her role, multiple insiders including Jeff Sneider have all but confirmed she is playing the X-Men mutant in the film. IMDb
Scooper Cryptic HD QUALITY shared that Jean gets the “First Steps Sue treatment” — with new visual flair to her powers and more VFX involved, said to resemble her X-97 counterpart. She is also reportedly described as “time displaced,” possibly meaning she is from the past, future, or an alternate universe. Amazon
Jeff Sneider has also revealed that both Anne Hathaway and Sarah Snook passed on a lead female role in the film, and believes Marvel subsequently “beefed up” Jean’s role in the movie after both of them declined.
Why Jean Grey Makes Perfect Sense Here
The film picks up four years after No Way Home, with Peter Parker living anonymously in a New York that has forgotten him. Reportedly, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher has a close relationship with Jean Grey — protecting her from Damage Control — which hints at a significant storyline. IMDb
Having Jean debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day before appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars — where the MCU will be rebooted and the new X-Men set up — would give her two high-profile appearances before the MCU’s first proper X-Men film arrives.
Jean Grey is one of the founding members of the X-Men in Marvel Comics, known as one of the most powerful telepaths and telekinetics in the entire Marvel universe — making her introduction in the MCU a seismic moment.
Marvel is rarely this secretive about major supporting characters in solo superhero films. The fact that Sink’s role has been kept hidden for this long — even after a full trailer dropped — strongly suggests she is playing a character of enormous MCU significance, and Jean Grey fits that description perfectly.
