Rs. 10 Crore, a Stake in ‘Pralaay’ & a Lesson in Letting Go — The Don 3 Drama Finally Has an Ending

Bollywood’s messiest behind-the-scenes saga of 2026 has finally found its resolution — and the way it wrapped up is almost as dramatic as the films involved. Farhan Akhtar has broken his silence on the Don 3 controversy, and Ranveer Singh’s settlement terms are eyebrow-raising, to say the least.

The Don 3 Controversy — Everything You Need to Know

What Actually Happened?

Here’s the short version: Ranveer Singh was officially on board for Don 3 and had already participated in pre-production. Then, off the back of Dhurandhar‘s massive success, he decided he didn’t want to be seen in two back-to-back gangster films — and walked out.

That exit wasn’t free. Excel Entertainment, backed by the Producers Guild of India, formally sought compensation for losses incurred during pre-production. Reports confirmed that Singh agreed to return Rs. 10 crore to the producers, and in a further gesture of goodwill, agreed to offer them a stake in his next film, Pralaay — which he’s now reportedly asking director Jai Mehta to begin shooting sooner.

Farhan Breaks His Silence — And It’s Remarkably Graceful

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan Akhtar chose measured words over drama. His statement — “What I’ve learned is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted until you actually have it on film” — is the kind of line that hits differently when you know the context.

He acknowledged that his filmmaking journey has been incredible overall, but that obstacles are part of the ride. “You realise that at some point, there will be a period that’s going to be a little bit more challenging. You have had it good, so it’s okay… Just take it in your stride.”

It’s a mature, grounded perspective from someone who could easily have vented publicly. Instead, Farhan chose to treat this as a lesson in the unpredictable nature of Bollywood — and that reframing says a lot about him as a filmmaker.

What Happens to Don 3 Now?

With Ranveer out of the picture, the search for a new Don is presumably underway, though no official casting announcement has been made. The Don franchise — known for Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic two-film run — carries enormous expectations, and the next casting choice will need to be bulletproof.

As for Ranveer Singh, he’s focusing on Pralaay and clearly charting a more deliberate path for his career post-Dhurandhar. It’s a power move — walking away from a franchise and negotiating the terms of your own exit speaks to where his stock currently sits in Bollywood.
