Robert Lewandowski breaks the 300 goals mark for Bayern Munich

If Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski had a banner year in 2020, then 2021 must be even better. Lewandowski broke a Bayern record for scoring for consecutive games with a goal on Saturday, barely three months after breaking the all-time Bundesliga single-season goalscoring record.

Bayern Munich thrashed Hertha Berlin 5-0 on Saturday, with Lewandowski scoring a hat trick and hitting the 300-goal mark for the defending Bundesliga winners. Müller, who died on August 15, 2021, at the age of 75, had a 15-game scoring streak in 1969 and 1970.

Robert Lewandowski is a Polish professional footballer who is the captain of the Poland national team and performs as a striker for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. Lewandowski is regarded as one of the best strikers of all time, as well as one of the most talented players in Bundesliga history, thanks to his positioning, technique, and finishing.

With a 34th-minute header, the reigning FIFA men’s world player of the year eclipsed Müller’s 1969-70 record of 15 straight games with a goal for Bayern, before placing two more goals in the second half. Before Lewandowski’s 41 goals last season, Müller, who died on Aug. 15 at the age of 75, held the single-season Bundesliga record.

Lewandowski led Bayern Munich to a historic treble in 2020, winning the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB-Pokal. This summer, transfer rumors swirled around the Polish international, who is one of the favorites to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Sets New Bayern Record

Since February of last season, Lewandowski has scored in 16 consecutive games for the defending league champions in all competitions. Lewandowski not only broke Gerd Müller’s record, but he did so in style with a hat trick.

Thomas Mueller gave Bayern an early lead, but Lewandowski equalized either side of a goal by Jamal Musiala. After stepping over the ball to allow Mueller to score the game’s first goal, Lewandowski might have finished with four assists. Lewandowski, according to Mueller, is performing at a higher level.

Last season, Lewandowski, who has won the last four league scoring titles, earned five hat tricks as Bayern claimed their ninth Bundesliga title in a row. He’s already scored five goals in three games this season, outscoring 11 of the league’s 18 teams, for a total of 301 goals in 333 appearances for Bayern.
