The Announcement
Marvel Studios Japan revealed that veteran voice actor Toshiyuki Morikawa will voice Doctor Doom in the Japanese dub. Downey appeared in the video himself, welcoming Morikawa and saying he can’t wait for Japanese audiences to hear his performance. A dubbed trailer followed, giving fans a first, suitably chilling taste.

A Heartfelt Tribute
Downey said Morikawa’s work carries forward the legacy of Keiji Fujiwara, who voiced Iron Man in Japanese from 2008’s Iron Man onward. Fujiwara passed away from cancer in April 2020 at age 55. It was a classy gesture.
Morikawa’s response was equally touching. He noted that he and Fujiwara entered the industry around the same time, and promised to honor his feelings in the role. He has also taken over Fujiwara’s anime role of Hiroshi Nohara in Crayon Shin-chan.
Why Fans Are Reading Between the Lines?
Downey was revealed as Victor von Doom at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, meaning Tony Stark’s face may be under the mask. Calling Doom the successor to Iron Man’s voice legacy naturally fuels speculation. The simpler explanation is that Fujiwara voiced a Downey character, and Morikawa now voices another.
Could Doom Be a Tony Stark Variant?
In a multiverse story, anything is possible. Fans have long theorized that Doom could be a Tony Stark variant from another universe. Comics offer some support: in the 2016 series Infamous Iron Man, Doom takes up the Iron Man mantle, and Marvel reissued that story ahead of Doomsday.
There are risks. Bringing Stark back as a villain could undercut his emotional Endgame farewell. Still, the MCU has already hinted at a darker Tony, most notably through his Ultron mistake.
