River Plate striker Julian Alvarez is attracting a lot of interest from European clubs. The likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen are all in the race to secure the forward.
However, River Plate are not willing to sell the player just yet. The player’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo has stated that talks about a new contract are underway. Julian Alvarez’s current deal expires in December 2022, and River Plate must work quickly to renew his deal.
According to the agreement, River Plate will not be able to turn down an offer of €20 million or more for Alvarez if one arrives from Europe.
The 21-year-old seems set to be the next big thing to come out of Argentina. One of the main motivations behind his desire to move to Europe is an increased chance to play in the 2022 World Cup. The Albiceleste recently sealed qualification for the Qatar World Cup by drawing against rivals Brazil in the CONMEBOL qualifiers.
In 40 appearances across all competitions for the club this season, Alvarez has scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists. He mainly operates as a striker but also has the ability to play out on the wings.
The River Plate academy graduate has already earned five caps for the Argentina national team. He made his debut for them in June 2021 against Chile in a 1-1 draw. He came on for Angel Di Maria in the 62nd minute of the game.
It seems only a matter of time before Julian Alvarez moves to a big club given that the price tag is only €20 million. But for now, the player is set to feature for his boyhood club with a new deal on the horizon.
