Why Athlete Endorsements Like This Matter

When a marquee cricketer like Pant — one of India’s most recognizable sporting faces — puts his weight behind other disciplines, it helps draw broader public attention to athletes who often compete with far less spotlight than cricket enjoys in India. The Asian Games, held every four years, brings together athletes from across the continent in sports ranging from track and field to swimming, wrestling, and more — many of which rarely get mainstream Indian media coverage outside the tournament window.

Pant’s gesture fits a growing trend of Indian cricketers using their massive public platforms to spotlight other sports and athletes during major multi-sport events, helping build nationwide interest beyond cricket season.

The Bigger Picture For Team India

With the Asian Games set to showcase India’s depth across disciplines, calls like Pant’s could help translate into stronger crowd support, increased viewership, and greater recognition for athletes competing outside the cricket spotlight — right when they need it most.
