Rick and Morty Season 9 Episode 8: Everything You Need to Know Before It Drops

Just when the multiverse thought it survived a tree-god biodome, Rick and Morty are already teasing something far weirder — and the title alone has fans spiraling. “Rickuiem Mort a Dream” arrives this week, and it’s shaping up to be one of the season’s darkest turns yet.

Here’s your quick cheat-sheet:

Rick and Morty: A Requiem-Inspired Twist Is Coming

The title is a clear nod to Requiem for a Dream, and the show’s teaser line — “Hold still broh, it’ll make you nice broh” — has fans buzzing about body horror or some kind of twisted transformation experiment. It’s classic Season 9 behavior: take a beloved piece of cinema, filter it through sci-fi absurdity, and see how much emotional damage can be smuggled in alongside the jokes.

This episode picks up right after “Mortgully: The Last Rickforest,” where Rick and Morty escaped an ancient tree god’s reincarnation prison by starving it of the violence it fed on. Given the season’s pattern of mixing broad comedy with genuinely heavy character work, “Rickuiem Mort a Dream” could lean into themes of addiction, obsession, or spiraling consequences — though the writer and director credits remain unlisted for now.

With only two episodes left after this one — “Salute Your Morts” on July 19 and the finale “Field of Dreams” on July 26 — the pressure is on for this chapter to set up a satisfying endgame. The good news for long-term fans: Adult Swim has already renewed the show through Season 12, so however wild things get, this isn’t the end of the road.
