Rhino Gets a Hide Worth Fearing: Spidey’s Season 2 Problem Just Got Bigger

Spider-Man never catches a break, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 is stacking the deck. Curt Connors and Otto Octavius have fallen from grace and have Spidey in their crosshairs. Now Mikhail Sytsevich, better known as Rhino, is getting a new costume to celebrate his promotion to main villain.

The Reveal

Rhino’s look was first teased on a D23 poster earlier this year. Toy maker Hasbro has now shown it off properly, with a first look at a Marvel Legends two-pack featuring Rhino and his nemesis. The figure comes with an interchangeable head and hands, but the costume is the real headline.

Like his comic book counterpart, this Rhino wears an outfit made from material designed to mimic the hide of a rhinoceros. For background on the character, see Rhino on Wikipedia.

How Past Rhinos Compare?

Version	Look and Fate
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man	Comic-style rhino-hide suit; set up for a complicated rivalry
The Amazing Spider-Man 2	Rampaged in a mechanical suit at the film’s end
Insomniac’s Spider-Man games	Mechanical suit grafted to his skin
Kraven the Hunter	Transformed into a rhinoceros-like creature, then died in battle

The article argues earlier versions failed to take cues from the source material and suffered for it. For more MCU news, follow our Marvel coverage on Technosports.

Why Mikhail Owes Peter Big Time?

In Season 1, Mikhail ran with Mila Masaryk’s heist gang, which got busted and jailed. Mila, using a helmet from Otto Octavius, broke them out as Unicorn, and Spider-Man couldn’t easily stop her. She even attacked Mikhail, knowing Spidey would rescue him. Furious at being used, Mikhail pulled off her helmet, so both were arrested.

He still made it clear that things weren’t all good between him and Spider-Man, and vowed to go after the hero if the chance arose.

What to Expect in Season 2?

Raw power: The suit boosts an already strong brawler.
Collateral damage: Rhino is a wrecking ball, so Peter must protect his surroundings, as in the Unicorn fight.
A flicker of heart: Season 1 showed he has one, but he still cares more about getting rich than doing the right thing.
Likely survival: The series has high hopes for him, so don’t expect him to be killed off.

He won’t be as big a threat as Doc Ock or Lizard, who have the brains to match their brawn, but Peter can’t overlook him either.
