This wait-and-see stance is a sharp contrast to comments co-writer Kurt Johnstad made previously on the Minutemen Podcast, where he revealed the creative team had already mapped out detailed outlines for movies three through six. Since then, momentum has clearly stalled. Lead actor Patrick Luwis recently said he hasn’t heard anything about returning to the series, and Snyder himself has admitted getting pulled toward his other Netflix project, a grounded LAPD action thriller that has reportedly run into budget issues of its own.

What the Viewership Numbers Actually Show?

This is where the story gets tougher for fans. Rebel Moon — Part One opened strong, pulling 57.8 million views in its first half-year and holding up well before settling at a lifetime total of 135.6 million. Part Two, however, told a very different story: it opened with 55.8 million views but collapsed to just 10 million by the following six-month period, ending with a total of 76 million, a nearly 44% drop from the first film. That’s a huge chunk of the audience abandoning the story partway through.

The Director’s Cuts Snyder is banking on to revive interest haven’t performed much better. Both extended versions pulled in single-digit millions on release and have only inched up slightly since, nowhere near the numbers needed to justify greenlighting an expensive new sequel.

Beyond the stalled Part Three talks, the streamer confirmed that Twilight of the Gods, Snyder’s adult-animated Norse mythology series, won’t return for a second season, and the planned Army of the Dead animated spin-offs have quietly disappeared from the conversation. Taken together, the pattern suggests Netflix’s confidence in Snyder’s expanded storytelling ambitions has diminished significantly since 2023.

Unless the Director’s Cuts see a dramatic, unexpected surge in viewership, Rebel Moon 3 looks more like a long shot than a sure thing right now.
