Raul Gonzalez and his remarkable work with Real Madrid’s Castilla

Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez has been in charge of the Castilla, Madrid’s youth team, since 2019. And it is safe to say that the former player has done a remarkable job with the youngsters, bringing them to the verge of promotion which is something that has never been done before.

One of the most impactful things that Raul has put in place is to make it so that there is no room for egos in the dressing room when he is in charge. He specifically ordered club shoes and backpacks to prevent the youngsters from flaunting their expensive accessories against opposition players of less prosperous teams in the division.

Another occasion that shows the quality that Raul demands is the display against Navalcarnero by the Castilla players. They were celebrating after a comeback win and the manager screamed at his players for celebrating mockingly by making disrespectful gestures at the opposition.

Lastly, the win against Atletico Madrid B was of course very well received by the youngsters. However, Raul reminded the players of their shortcomings to keep them grounded and not let them get carried away, also telling them that they had not performed to their best on the pitch.

If this is the quality that the legendary Madrid striker demands from a youth team, he will no doubt be one of the best managers in the world in a few years time. One could hope for Raul to manage the Madrid first team too, following in the footsteps of fellow Madrid player, Zinedine Zidane.
