Raspberry Pi 4 launched with support for dual 4K 60Hz displays & up to 4GB RAM

The Raspberry Pi 4 with Broadcom BCM2711 quad core processor, dual 4K display support, dual band WiFi & up to 4GB RAM launched

Raspberry Pi is one of the most commonly used boards for DIY projects as because this boards packs a power of a mini computer in its small form factor. Also its simple usability and simplicity makes it more popular and handy for various projects.

This board gets a major upgrade and adds lot more modern features. Raspberry Pi 4 packs in a Broadcom BCM2711 processor which has Quad core Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) 64-bit SoC clocked at 1.5GHz.

This time the RAM has 3 options according to your needs – 1GB, 2GB and 4GB. So, you can configure accordingly on basis of the project you are trying to make with this little computer.

Also this board can be connected to dual 4K 60Hz displays, thanks to the 2x microHDMI ports on the board, allowing you to visualise on two 4K displays simultaneously.

On the I/O front, you get 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, a Gigabit ethernet port, and a USB-C power supply. Yes, finally the microUSB port gets upgraded to a faster USB-C port.

The connectivity also gets upgraded – for the first time you get dual band WiFi i.e. 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz IEEE 802.11ac wireless support. Also there’s the much needed and a upgraded Bluetooth 5.0 support.

Here’s all the specs:

• Broadcom BCM2711, Quad core Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) 64-bit SoC @ 1.5GHz
• 1GB, 2GB or 4GB LPDDR4-2400 SDRAM (depending on model)
• 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz IEEE 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 5.0, BLE
• Gigabit Ethernet
• 2 USB 3.0 ports; 2 USB 2.0 ports.
• Raspberry Pi standard 40 pin GPIO header (fully backwards compatible with previous boards)
• 2 × micro-HDMI ports (up to 4kp60 supported)
• 2-lane MIPI DSI display port
• 2-lane MIPI CSI camera port
• 4-pole stereo audio and composite video port
• H.265 (4kp60 decode), H264 (1080p60 decode, 1080p30 encode)
• OpenGL ES 3.0 graphics
• Micro-SD card slot for loading operating system and data storage
• 5V DC via USB-C connector (minimum 3A*)
• 5V DC via GPIO header (minimum 3A*)
• Power over Ethernet (PoE) enabled (requires separate PoE HAT)
• Operating temperature: 0 – 50 degrees C ambient

In India the pricing of this board is said to be around Rs.3,186 (inclusive of GST) and you head over to the official Raspberry site to know more.
