Ramayana: Ranbir Kapoor Says Yash’s Ravana Breaks Every Stereotype

Nitesh Tiwari’s mega-budget epic Ramayana is generating fresh buzz after its team appeared at San Diego Comic-Con, where leading man Ranbir Kapoor opened up about sharing this larger-than-life universe with co-star Yash — and didn’t hold back his admiration for how Yash is reimagining one of mythology’s most iconic villains.

What Ranbir Kapoor Said

Speaking at the panel, Ranbir credited Yash for completely moving away from the typical, one-note portrayal of Ravana audiences are used to, praising the swagger and presence he’s brought to the role instead. He noted that Ravana has traditionally been depicted in a fairly predictable way over the years, but that Yash’s version breaks from that mold entirely.

Interestingly, despite playing characters destined for an epic clash, Ranbir revealed that he and Yash haven’t actually shared physical screen time for most of the shoot so far — their characters, Rama and Ravana, are set to appear together only toward the film’s climax, with a possible mid-film meeting still unshot. Even so, Ranbir made it clear he’s long admired Yash’s work and believes his stardom and presence make him uniquely suited for a role of this scale.

The actor also got candid about his own journey playing Lord Rama, admitting he initially felt real uncertainty about taking on the role, unsure if he was capable of doing it justice. Over time, though, that doubt shifted into something closer to gratitude, and he now sees it as both a rare opportunity and a responsibility.
