What’s the Story About?
Pull Strings follows Li Changshou, a low-level cultivator reborn in the brutal Primordial Era, right before the Great God-Conferment War. Unlike typical “chosen one” protagonists, Li has one modest goal: survive long enough to live a peaceful immortal life. He avoids unnecessary conflict, calculates every move with near-perfect precision, and quietly masters poison-making and escape techniques — all in the name of staying alive and out of trouble.
Naturally, his careful plans go sideways almost immediately, especially once his master takes in a new junior sister, setting off a chain of events Li never saw coming. Set against the backdrop of the mythological Investiture of the Gods legend, the show leans into visual comedy and modern humor, adapting the source novel’s dense internal monologues into something more accessible for TV audiences — think cultivation drama with a self-aware comedic edge.
Meet the Cast
The series is led by Ao Ruipeng as Li Changshou and Sun Zhenni as Yun Xiao, with Ao Ziyi playing Ao Yi and Ai Mi as Lan Ling’e. Supporting roles include Zeng Keni, Yu Yi, Zhang Changning, and Ma Jinghan, rounding out a large ensemble cast befitting the story’s sprawling Primordial Era setting.
The drama is based on the hit web novel and animated series Senior Brother, Hold On!, which has built a loyal fanbase over 100+ episodes since 2023, making this live-action adaptation one of the most anticipated fantasy releases of the year.
