PUBG Battlegrounds Goes Next-Gen Only: Console Specifications, Rewards & Everything You Need to Know

The battle royale titan is making a bold move. PUBG: Battlegrounds officially transitions to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S exclusively on November 13, 2025, with Update 38.2, ending support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This next-gen upgrade promises enhanced performance, stunning visuals, and exclusive rewards for loyal players. Here’s everything you need to know about this major transition.

PUBG Console Next-Gen Update

Next-Gen Console Specifications: What to Expect

The transition brings significant technical upgrades across all supported platforms, with PlayStation 5 running at 1440p resolution and 60 FPS, PlayStation 5 Pro supporting dynamic 4K resolution at 60 FPS, Xbox Series X delivering 2160p resolution at 60 FPS, and Xbox Series S offering flexible options of either 1080p at 60 FPS or 1440p at 30 FPS.

These specifications represent a massive leap from previous-generation consoles, ensuring smoother gunfights, faster load times, and more responsive controls—critical advantages in a game where milliseconds determine victory or defeat.

How to Prepare for the Next-Gen Transition

Getting ready for the update is straightforward. Players can preload the game starting November 12, 2025, at 02:00 UTC, allowing them to jump straight into action once the November 13 update goes live.

For PlayStation users, you’ll need to download the PS5 version separately from the PlayStation Store after November 13. Xbox players have it easier—the current-gen version will automatically download via Smart Delivery starting November 13 if you already have the game installed.

Important note: Your account data, purchased items, and progress carry over seamlessly to next-gen consoles. However, PS5 users will need to reconfigure in-game settings since PS4 and PS5 versions are treated as separate products, and PS4 trophies won’t transfer, though Xbox achievements remain intact.

Exclusive Rewards for Loyal Players

KRAFTON isn’t leaving veteran players empty-handed. Players who created a PUBG: Battlegrounds account on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 before the November 13 maintenance will receive thank-you gifts including the PUBG Icons Parachute, Desolate Military Base nameplate, and PUBG Graffiti emblem, automatically delivered to their inventory after the server maintenance.

Additionally, special bundles are available for PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass members, including the Hunter’s Chest, keys, Contraband Coupons, and exclusive parachute skins, claimable from November 13, 2025, at 09:00 UTC until January 8, 2026.

Console-Exclusive Events & Referral Bonuses

The developer announced console-exclusive events offering in-game currency and a referral program where players can earn 500 G-Coin for inviting new or returning players. These events are specifically designed to welcome fresh players to the current-gen console ecosystem and reward existing players for growing the community.

A discount for Battlegrounds Plus is also in the works, though specific pricing details will be revealed in upcoming announcements.

Why the Shift to Next-Gen Only?

This transition isn’t just about prettier graphics. By focusing exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S hardware, KRAFTON can fully leverage modern console capabilities without being constrained by eight-year-old hardware limitations. This means future updates can include more ambitious features, larger-scale maps, and complex gameplay mechanics that simply weren’t possible on aging consoles.

The move aligns with industry trends as major publishers increasingly abandon previous-gen support to maximize current-gen potential. For competitive players, the enhanced performance could level the playing field against PC users in cross-platform matches.

Looking Ahead: PUBG’s 2025 Roadmap

PUBG celebrated its 8th anniversary in 2024, with plans to continue expanding in 2025 through improved Ranked rewards, Clan system enhancements, and ongoing esports events including the PUBG Global Championship in December.

The console upgrade represents KRAFTON’s commitment to keeping PUBG competitive in the crowded battle royale market. With Fortnite and Apex Legends constantly evolving, staying technologically relevant is crucial for retaining players.
