The new 20th Century Studios thriller Psycho Killer hit theaters on February 20, 2026, and while critics haven’t been kind (yes, that 0% on Rotten Tomatoes is real), audiences are still walking out with plenty of questions — especially about that wild, explosive finale. Let’s break it all down.
Psycho Killer Story in Brief
Psycho Killer follows Jane Archer (played by Barbarian‘s Georgina Campbell), a Kansas State Trooper who witnesses her husband’s brutal murder during a routine traffic stop at the hands of a serial killer known as the Satanic Slasher (James Preston Rogers). Fueled by grief and rage, she goes rogue to hunt him down — uncovering a dark web of ideology, cults, and chaos along the way.
The film is written by Andrew Kevin Walker, the screenwriter behind the iconic Se7en (1995), and directed by producer Gavin Polone in his feature debut.

Psycho Killer Ending Explained

Things take a massive turn in the third act. Jane discovers the Slasher isn’t just a random murderer — he’s tied to a radical ideological movement and is planning to blow up a nuclear power plant to trigger what he calls “eternal darkness.” This shifts the film from revenge thriller into full disaster-movie territory.
Despite being pregnant and officially off the case, Jane storms the nuclear facility alone. In a tense standoff, the Slasher is barricaded behind bulletproof glass, armed with dynamite strapped to his body and a grenade in hand. Jane, against all odds, fires multiple shots through the reinforced glass — wounding the Slasher just enough to prevent him from detonating the explosives.
The catastrophe is averted. But the film closes on an unsettling note: the Slasher survives, leaving the door wide open for a sequel. Jane believes it’s over, but as Georgina Campbell herself confirmed in interviews, her character has no idea he’s still alive.
Also worth noting — Jane’s pregnancy was almost cut entirely. The filmmakers shot two versions of the film before deciding to keep it in the final cut.
