PSG in talks to activate Ousmane Dembele’s Barca release clause worth €50mn

PSG have decided to activate Ousmane Dembele’s release clause worth €50 million, which is valid until July 31. The winger also has an offer to renew his contract with Barcelona, but is yet to decide his future. 

As things stand, the discussions have only begun and are not in an advanced stage yet. The release clause is valued at €50 million until July 31, after which it will double in amount to €100 million. The decision is up to the player, with both parties putting their offers on the table for Dembele. 

PSG make opening move to sign Ousmane Dembele 

The player was close to leaving last summer as well, but the intervention of Xavi Hernandez was crucial in getting him to stay and renew. He was exiled from the squad after a public announcement from the club’s hierarchy.

But, Xavi re-integrated him into the first team and he is now one of the most important players in attack. His deal runs out next summer, and the timing is crucial for Barcelona to get him to renew if they want him to stay. 

PSG are rebuilding their project and have already signed Marco Asensio on a free transfer. They are also preparing for the departure of Kylian Mbappe, and view Ousmane Dembele as a potential replacement for their number 7. 

But whether or not they are able to get the deal over the line depends on the player’s position and preference.
